blue smoke on tick over

hi
help much needed. i rev the car and when the revs die down a big cloud of blue smoke comes out the exhaust[car not moving] it takes a couple of seconds before it comes. i have driven the car hard and there is no smoke under acceleration but when i come to a stop at traffic lights it puts out smoke. i had a cheap oil catch can in and when i took it the problem stopped. the problem came back after i parked the car for a week . i am only after putting in a steel headgasket, a baffle in the sump and steel turbos.any help would be great.
thanks mike

blue smoke means it is burning oil - does it do it on start up? (valve seals). on acceleration generally means it is the rings (which your car is not doing?).

I don't understand the rest of your post - are you saying it stopped when you took the catch can off? (it could have been plumbed in wrong if so - if your car is getting exessive oil collecting in the intake, then it may have worn rings [blowby]). A quick test is to take the oil cap off while your car is running, if it is blowing lots of air/oil out then rings are stuffed. The rest of your post doesn't make sense.

there is no smoke on start up and no back pressure out of the oil cap. i presume that the oil catch can was piped incorectly.what i can not understand is how can having the oil catch in wrong can cause the same effect as worn rings. i have checked all intercooler hoses and no oil deposited. if there was something wrong internally in the engine should the smoke not be there under accelration? as i said any help would be great

Mine does this when I rev to 5 or 6k without the car moving then a few seconds after I let off I see a bit of Blue smoke. Its probably oil going past the turbo bearings. I had trouble with mine wearing out. I had changed to 2540s with 360 bearings, the standard oil restrictor in the block is too small to lubricate the extra pads. Did you connect the breather pipe back as standard, as this can cause oil to get drawn through the rear turbo fan on high boost.

hi
yes i reconnected the breather pipe to standard. this puts out a big cloud of blue smoke when idle, and goes away after a couple of seconds. i started the car when cold and revved it and no smoke. the annoying thing is that it was perfect when i drove it last week. i was driving hard and a friend was behind me and said that there was not a puff of smoke. i am lost.

Mike - I'd be getting a leakdown test done on it. you may have damaged something in the engine.
