550bhp 550lbft Impreza 22B
Title is actually a lie or at least a bending of the truth.
There are dyno print outs and rolling roads to show the engine was happy at these power outputs, but the turbo has since been changed for a smaller item which has a bhp limit of only 500bhp. This change has also brought it a boost theshold of around 3000 rpm making it drive like a standard 22B but on some serious steroids. The car has been known on here to many old school members for around 5 years. I am the third owner from new and have owned the car since 12,000 miles until the current 37,000. When the standard engine failed the car was taken off the road and was not used for two years as the project was being undertaken. This is well documented in threads on both this and 22b.com. The bodywork with the exception of a small pint dent in the near side front wing is in exceptional condition. I have even gone to the trouble of changing interior trim if it gets scratched. It has been loved like few other imprezas and is always garaged. The body was resprayed entirely for continuity bewteen panels at my request to account for stone chips on the wings bonnet and front bumper. The car has not been in an accident when in my possession and not knowlingly before my possession either, with the exception of when I ran over and killed a cat taking a chunk of the front bumper at the same time. This was repaired invisibly by a boat yard who are apprently the best people for fibre glass work. Looks wise it is completely standard as an import 22B should be. Clear rear lights as standard, standard orange indicators front and rear. Fog light covers, not fog lights. Standard wheels, although the rims have been polished after a refurb. They are not scuffed at all. Tyres are almost brand new 235 40 17 goodyear F1s and I also have a spare set of 255s which are under 1000 miles old which can be used for track use. The car has been serviced by enthusiasts since it became a project car, prior to that it was serviced with barretts mototsport and scoobysport. It has always been run on the best quality oils available including Motul and Redline. I currently have 48 litres of redline sitting in the garage as prrof for its intended use, tough am unsure if it will be sold with the car, it depends on what replaces it. The car has been run on optimax or esso super in all the time I have had it at least with millers, but now with a full bottle of NF per tank. This isn't a requirement, just something I prefer to do. I also have 15 bottles of NF waiting, which can go with the car too. People are often afraid of damaging 22Bs, often with good reason, with this in mind, I have invested in spare bodywork. The car will be supplied with a one off autoclaved carbon fibre front bumper (currently unpainted). I also have a spare standard rear bumper, should a mishap occur in the future. The chassis is almost standard. It has been treated to AP 6 pot brakes. In a box on the garage floor there is also a complete set of power flex bushes if required and a white line 22m adjustable rear anti roll bar complete with solid drop links. There are cusco front and rear upper and lower strutbraces too. Now comes the fun bit. in mine and many respected opinions, it has the strongest 2.5 engine available both in terms of physical strength of components and power potential. Short Block: 2.2 standard closed deck block complete with oil squirters relinered with 4mm thick top hat liners to 100mm bore. three layer steel 2.5 head gasket increased stroke taken to 79mm by farden billet forged crank with cross drilled oil ways, this alone was £1500 ACL big end and main bearings PAR rods custom spec JE pistons with teflon friction coat. compression ratio of 8.4:1 ARC racing sump with increased oil capacity (7.5 litres in total) Heads: flowed and ported by SMG tuning DH22 cams specced by kent by reprofiling standard sti3 cams (larger starting base circle) custom billet valves for increased temperature handling when running circa 600bp custom double springing with custom top hat lifters 6 prodrive 14mm head studs on each head kent vernier cam pulleys gas flowed shotblasted inlet manifold running in reversed direction for shortened pipework length 8 cosworth low impedance grey injectors, with staged firing for low granularity at idle but without fuel supply problems at high power! Engine peripherals: SX fuel pressure regulator custom slip jointed 2 inch uppipe and race gate external wastegate rated to 900bhp. Lateral performance garret gt30r turbo with 0.63 housing good for 500bhp and 500lbft (possibly significantly more torque). The engine has happily been run at 2.2 bar without any signs of trouble. The wastegate rejoins custom downpipe to make for an impreza as quiet as any other during normal driving. The car runs no dumpvalve and makes great noises to prove it! Lateral performance front mounted intercooler - loses air con but avoids cutting into the £3500 bumper! also provides exceptionally short pipework particularly when inlet manifold reversed. surfaces discharge spark plugs run from msd ignition amplifier (bypassable) Pectel T6 2000 ecu (with knock control - not set up) - this is my favourite mod! This unit alone is around £3500 installed with complete wiring looms and wide band lambda control. It allows an unbelievable number of control parameters for accurate mapping as well as safety cut outs so it can kill the engine if any monitored parameter gets to high. Also allows in car driver controlled (via a knob) premapped switchable boost control. runs a driver controlled switch for engaging two completely different maps for available fuel. To my knowledge mine is the only road going impreza running a pectel where the ecu is aware of the oil pressures and oil temperature, allowing it to keep an eye of the values for you to let you get on with the driving. Note the ecu runs with a loom adapter so the car can be returned to standard wiring set up by simply unplugging it. Note: standard ecu supplied with car will not run the engine though! Mocal 13 row oil cooler hidden in wing, supplied by air from brake duct in bumper. Oil primer system allows the car to build oil pressure before the engine is turned over. also means it need not be subjected to the start up procedure when oil changing. Primer pump can empty the entire system within about 6 seconds! Also driver controlled via switch in centre console. gear on car has been changed to run UK gears with 3.9 final drive ratio. This gives gearing to 200mph+, which turbo dependent isn't unobtainable. Given the torque of the engine from the 5 speed gearbox, the higher gearing is much better suited than the standard type r ratios. The gearbox is a five speed PAR synchro kit which hasn't missed a beat, though the car has not been subjected to standard quarter mile launces as can normally be expected from a 500bhp 10 second capable car. The clutch is a lateral performance ceramic paddle clutch which has never showed signs of slipping, but requires delicate left leg control for smooth driving in traffic jams. The exhaust centre section and backbox area scoobymania straight through 3 inch, These produce a very nice but far from loud sound and fit the odd cut out in the 22B bumper better than any other exhaust system I have seen. two tank mounted warlboro fuel pumps to reduce increased noise associated with extra fuel pumps. These are relay controlled. An extra supply pipe has been installed in the same location as the standard fuel pipes for the return from the fuel rails. This allowed the standard return to be used as another supply. This has made for a very clean fuelling install which can easily be returned to standard. I am getting tired now so I have to stop. I can add the car has a cat one alarm and vsib certificate of installation. It also has tracker monitor which has been paid for for life, though I am usnure of this si transferrable. The receipts for this car, I believe, total over 40,000 although more likely much more. I always swore I would never sell it, but I am looking to going back to driving one car all the time, and this means I will be heading in a completely different direction. Given what normal 22Bs go for, I think an asking price of £32,500 is not unreasonable. No hurry to sell (not even sure if I should at all), but I would prefer to avoid people testpiloting! should also mention that the car is number 377 of 400 and is an S plate. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() btw, car is number 377/400 and is an S plate. |

lol Adam,
just an excuse to write another incredibly long dissertation ![]() Good, now that you've decided to keep it you should make a positive decision to type less and drive more ![]()

Nito,
About that car I once sold you. I am in need of a photo session soon with our current cars. When are you in London next?
