ENGINE KNOCK!! ANY IDEAS???

Right then, about a week ago my mates GTS'T suffered a turbo failure, exhaust wheel exitted through the exhaust and one blade from the comppressor wheel broke off and ended up in f*** knows where.
Fitted another turbo and all was fine for 7 days or so.
He was driving through town at around 10mph in traffic on thursday and the engine started to knock.
We've pinpointed it to be possibly cam related on the exhaust side. I say cam related as the knock is at half crankshaft speed.
Its got good compression, dos'nt chuff from exhaust or oil filler, dos'nt smoke and generally runs as sweet as apart from this mettalic knock from the top end. The noise is still there when under load too, thus eliminating small end bearing?
We changed 2 cam followers/valve lifters today on No1 exhaust side but its still there, gona try No2 in the morning just to make sure but we're running out of ideas.
Any takers guys????

Another clue! although i previously stated that the compression was fine (a gestimate ), after carrying out a compression test, number one has the biggest variation from the other 5 and is 10psi down.
Could this give a metalic knock on the power stroke?
Anyway, hes now got another engine and it looks like this one is coming out.
