Clutch Problem

Hi All,

I've got a problem with my clutch that is really starting to annoy me

When I first got the car I was told it was a Nismo twin plate clutch.

The problem I've got is it's really snatchy. When you use it in reverse it's fine, no problems at all and really smooth. When I use it going forwards sometimes it's fine and other times it's really snatchy and I either stall the car or kangaroo down the road

It's not just me though Jay-R32 off here has got an OSGiken twin in his car and he's drove my car and thinks the same as me.

I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking of changing the clutch because it's taking a little bit of the pleasure away from driving the car

Anybody got any ideas of what the problem could be or worse still is the clutch supposed to be like that?

Thanks in advance

John

Thinking about again. The clutch isn't fine sometimes really it's always sh!t! It's more to do with how much time I've got to get the car moving. If I've got all the time in the world then it's fine and I can get it moving but slowly. When there are any cars approaching and I need to get moving is when I stall or kangaroo.

It feels as though there is about 3-5mm movement between off and on. Yet there is about 30mm of on/off transition when using it in reverse Making using it in reverse a pleasure and using it going forwards a nightmare

Any help would be really appreciated.

Cheers

John

maybe the thrust bearing is too big for the clutch diafragm?

Nismo Twin

My 32... erm, my OLD 32 came with a nismo twin in it. I hated it and hence changed it for the OS... nothing wrong with it as it was sold on, just nowhere near as good and a pain to use.

The clutch always spins the same way, whether you're driving forwards or in reverse. So I doubt this could be the problem.

Simon.

Have you sold it then mate? Nice one

I was thinking was it just the clutch but someone has replied on the skylineowners forum saying it could possibly be that the plates are worn and need changing??

Simon.
I thought that but then why is it different in opposite directions?

Thanks for the info though.

hi John, why dont u try some adjustment at the clutch paddle.. or check your clutch pump, sometime u need to upgrade your clutch pump to suits nismo twin plate..

Nope, mine is exactly the same, (ORC twin), changed from an Os Giken, which was real easy to use, with the ORC its nice in reverse, but really snatchy when going forwards, first of all I had a genuine Nissan thrust bearing which I thought could have been the problem, so changed it for an Os Giken one, made no difference.

I can't see how worn plates would make it more snatchy and I think the Nismo master cylinder, (I think it is), only helps give it a lighter pedal from what I've heard.

I think its just something you've got to live with or change the clutch, if you do I'd recommend Os Giken!

Is reverse gear a shorter ratio than 1st? If so you need less engine torque to get going and hence less slip time which leads to a subjective `better` feel in reverse than 1st?

I understand what you mean , but having driven the car i can honestly say that its not a subtle difference , it's like two totally different clutches , similar to my OS giken twin when in reverse , and a a tenth of that progression when (trying to) pull away in first.

So it isn't just me then I was wondering if you were ever going to join in Jay

Maybe I will just live with it for a while longer and try some launches at Santa Pod to loosen it up a little

hope this helps (can be repaired very cheaply)
