Your thoughts on NGK BKR5EIX-11

Hi!

Following a discussion on iridium spark plugs... I just wanted to know if any of you have any thoughts on NGK BKR5EIX-11 plugs for a R34 GTT Skyline, only mod is a Apexi intake.
To Hot or to Cold?
If so, any recommendations?

Thanks for that!
Tomas

I know its a GT-T, but a 5?

I thought 6 was seriously risky, 7 was minumum, 8 is nice and 9 offers a safety margin.

I'm up for a Bo Derek 10 tho' if she is willing!

5 Cant be that bad... it's a coldair intake and keep in mind that I do live in ICEland so I am realy not dealing with 30deg C all day long...

Quote from the NGK website:
----------------------------
Your Vehicle:
1998.5 - 2001.6 NISSAN SKYLINE 2500 TURBO RB25DET
Spark Plug Part No.
Recommended Plug PFR6G-11
Iridium Option BKR6EIX-11
----------------------------

By the way, is 5 hotter or colder than 6?..
I keep mixing this up with the Denso ones...

Thanks for your reply!
Tomas

Put 6s in it.

6 is colder than 5, you need colder plugs the harder the engine is being worked.

I would put 6s in, unless you're running more boost, in which case Id suggest a 7.

Pikey is right. The higher the number the colder the plug (nose is more recessed). Whilst the air may be colder (for you) its still hot in the engine and you need to run a plug not only based on ambient but also the internal to engine conditions. Turbo engine, especially with higher boost will need the colder plug. Based on your boost you might also want to think about plug gap as well, the "-11" means you are running a big gap, fine on standard boost, not so if you have the wick turned up!

Is .6 gap too small for 1.5bar boost?

For your turbo application and boost IMHO .6mm is right, if you were running CDI or high power coils i would say bigger.

The difference between .7 and .6 can be the difference between missfire or not in my experience.

As you are practically standard Thomas i would go with a 6 or 7 heat range and 0.8mm gap. NGK do a plug ready gapped to this specification. Cant recall the part no. now but a search on here or SOC would definitely reveal it.

Colder plugs will reduce engine power unless you really need it.
6-7 should be OK for light tuned engine.
