How much more power ??

Dear Friends,

I was just hoping if someone could tell me what, if any, would be the difference in power if I added a Apexi Power FC on my Skyline ?
I own a R34 GTR, to that, ive added the HKS Power Flow air filters, and an Apexi Exhaust. Other than that, the car is pretty much stock.
Would the Apexi Power FC add any extra horses to the car, and is it worth while adding it in at this point?
Some threads in this forum say that just by adding a Power FC unit made a great difference to their Stock car as the real power of the car was unleased, due to the fact that japan earlier had restrictions on BHP on all cars produced (limit of 280bhp)?
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks.

Bar

If done correct (by GT-Art or the like) you may see about 50 to 70 extra wheel bhp with a PFC - I got an extra 56whp on a R32 with Apexi Dual N1 exhaust and air filters but I think the R34 turbo can safely be boosted a bit more - I had the bar raised to 0.85 from 0.70 standard.

I think skyline69 did say everything. If you just individually edit the fuel and ign. tables on a dyno, your car will have here and there some more hp's. By increase the boost you'll get much more. But it's requiered that a renowned tuner do this.

I have seen a few people get increases of 50 / 60 hp from just the addition of a well mapped pfc.

The biggest gains are from increasing boost. if you are looking for a bit more power and are currently running standard boost, then get the power fc fitted and a boost controller at the same time and have the b oost increased to 1 bar (on your turbos you should be able to run 1.15 as the R34 turbos have a 360 degree thrust bearing) - but generally speaking 1 bar should be enough and this still leaves a factor of safety.

the difference between stock boost and 1 bar is massive and you wont look back.

Expect power to rise to nearly 400bhp with a bar and the power fc (a decat is useally a very good move too if you havent already done this)

When I had my PFC fitted instead of the original Mines ECU there was a small increase in power but it wasn't dynoed so can't give figures. At the same time a decat, a single cam pulley and aftermarket fuel pressure regulator were fitted. However the main difference was to the driveability. Off-boost is now much improved, feels alot more responsive, quicker to come on-boost. It's just really sharpened the engine up and even sounds very different, although the decat will of course make a difference to the sound.

But the thing with the PFC is that it's only as good as the person mapping it and could easily trash your engine if done incorrectly. Rod Bell did mine and what he doesn't know about the GTR and mapping the PFC for the GTR isn't worth knowing IMO. So unless you've got someone who knows what they are doing with the PFC it maybe be safer to go with a Mines or similar ECU running the appropriate boost.

My R34 GTR according to the VDO display goes to a max of 1 bar. Dont really know if that was stock, or whether it was modified before it was imported from Japan. The fellows here in Malaysia say that it isnt advisable to get the car more that a 1.1 bar of boost with the current stock parts as it might just kill the engine. Do these Apexi Power FC's come with presets for the Skyline to pep up the engine, or would I still need a professional who has worked on a GTR to do the needful? cos ofcos, if he is just going to play around with the controller which might result in him messing up my engine, i'd rather not. I ended up paying a hell of alot just now, Got a JEN Oil Pump, Nismo Con Bearings, the whole set, Lord have mercy........alot of $$ just spent, and being installed right now, just hope shes up and running after this.
Thanks Guys.
