Misfire...what to check next

Had a misfire on the R32 that resulted in it sometimes running on 4 or 5 cylinders when hot. Bought 2 new coil packs and traced some of the problem to a duff no.1 coil pack. No.3 cylinder however is still missing sometimes when warm. I've tried different plugs and coil packs (that work in other cylinders) and it still doesn't cure it.
Has anyone heard of the loom that runs between the igntion module (10cm ish sqaure box with 6 pin in/out) and the coil packs going? Is it common for an ignition module (if thats what it is) to go when warm? It does get pretty toasty under the bonnet when given a bit...

I think the loom is failrly prone to failing on older cars.

I have a nice R32 rebuild article in a Hong Kong Option magazine at home and they replace all the engine loom when fiiting a Tomei 500hp engine.

I know my coil loom is pretty brittle. Sitting in one of the hottest places in the engine bay it's no wonder really.
