:We've just spent all day replacing a turbo on a 200sx s14.
After checking and double checking everything we turned the engine over with the injectors unplugged to prime it then we fired the car up. All sounds fine so we set off for a drive. Before long a small grinding noise appears from the engine bay, it's coming from the turbo :-(. We drive home slowly and the noise gets worse. We dodnt make boost at all on the drive and probably drove 2/3 miles in total. We've taken the intake off and spinning the impellar now makes a noise and there is alot more play in the turbo shaft. Is the turbo totally buggered or can it be salavaged? Another question would be how could have this been avoided? Many Thanks for any comments / suggestions. Regards Dan |

Exactly this happened to a friend of mine .
They put on a new T25 on a s13 200sx , and it took about 5 minutes and there was massive shaft play . We really could not understand anything , till we found out that the engine was so low on oil, that the bearings got no oil . She had not changed oil or checked it for almost TWO YEARS !!!!! It was fine after changing the bearings . The first turbo died because of a completely clogged turbo oil feed line . |

We took the turbo off the next day, it was full of oil and when spinning the shaft it was silent again as it was before we put it on. At a complete loss now as to what's going on so it's been sent off to turbo tech for a professional opinion.
My only theory is that it's defective inside and cant flow enough oil. |
