Need help as I bought a pair of so called steel internals from a fellow skyline owner months ago. Now went to fit them this week and found they look like standard ones
after removing the packing. Can anyone tell me how to recognize steel internals from the standard ones. A picture would be helpful aswell. |

look at the turbine wheel (exhaust side) it should be steel and not the ceramic shite. Give it a carefull tap with a small screwdriver or something, be carefull though because if it is ceramic its very delicate and brittle stuff.
Youl know from the sound it makes if its steel or ceramic. Perhaps someone can clarify this but i think theres a 6 sided nut on the end of the shaft if its been rebuilt with steels, ceramic has a 12 sided star shaped end to the shaft IIRC. |

exhaust turbine
mate, grab a magnet and place it on the actual exhaust wheel/ shaft. if it sticks to it (like it does to the actual housing) then it is metal. if it doesn't want to stick to the exhaust wheel, then you have stock units..... I did this last night on mine (just to see if it was an accurate test) and it is a very distinct way of determining if metal or not.

Rebuild price of standard turbo's with steel inners.
Had them back from Turbo Technics all rebuilt at a cost of £730 which included the VAT and Postage. They took a couple of days to do.
I'm giving them a thumbs up for the service. |
