Need some help with a GTR R33 V Spec
Hi Guys
I hope I'm posting in the right place JUst bought a Skyline and wanted some advice on the engine and turbo. Here's a pic of the engine bay and the boost controller. I'm not sure if the car has a turbo timer ? Is it essential to have one and if it does need one which is the recommended one to get ? Thanks in advance Zak |

Not essential to have a "turbo timer", Leaving the car at idle for a couple of minutes with yourself inside it will act in the same way as a "turbo timer"!!!
Infact some of the alarms will not activate until the car has switched off, so it useless really IMO. If you must have one, imo they all do the same job. Probably comes down to which one you like the looks of more. |

Zak, Have you heard about a system called 'turbo guard'? its a kind of engine oil reservior, once you switch off engine (oil pump stopped), the oil from reservior is released, able to lubricate the turbos! i got t.timer on mine, its pretty useless because 1)i cant activite the alarm with the engine running, otherwise alarm WILL go off, unless u got an alarm system (clifford) corporate with the turbo timer. 2)If u activate the turbo timer, and lock the doors via either with key or alarm remote, once the engine stop, the central locking WILL be open!

So i rather sit in the car for 30sec-1 min (in town driving), or a good 3 mins with hard driving, P.S the above is my situation, hope it helps...nice mid-night purple?! by the way..(if the t.timer does not appears on the dash, it may be a chance that it is hidden underneath the dash (behind the steering wheel)

I've always had timers on my turbocharged cars, sometimes you just turn your car off automatically when you pull up, and damaged could be done quickly if you've driven it hard.
i know that clifford have an alarm system which icludes a built in turbo timer so the alarm is activated whilst the car ticks over, failing that you can wire them to your hand brake so when the hand brake is released the engine cuts out. I don't think there are many people who could walk away from there skyline ticking over if its alarmed or not, i just think they do come in handy and there not to expensive. i bought my brother one a few months back, a BLITZ DTT DC2 it has alot of functions and its not much bigger than a match dox! ![]() |

Hi Zak,
Sorry i shouldnt have mentioned about the 'turbo guard', because its not a popular gudget, and i couldnt find their official site, but here is a link of this product... http://www.agriemach.com/product_inf...roducts_id=483 Really, if you are worried, then treat yourself a turbotimer as a christmas present, or perhaps get an alarm system (clifford) which can works along with the t.timer! |

Hi Essexboy
I also have mine wired to the hand brake light wiring, as you said, when the hand brake is released, the engine will cuts off, the steering will be locked (unturnable) since the key is not in the ignition, so they cant steal the car. But have you thought of some BASXXXD (kids?!), jumps in the car, put in first WITHOUT release the handbrake, didnt realised the steering wheel is locked, then crash...didnt happened to me, but only a little thought, just hope everyone looks after their car!! |
