Skyline Audio Idea

Hi all

On my R33 i have great audio but it lacks bass and i have been looking for a small discreet subwoofer installation but i cannot find any. So i have thought about utilising the rear middle hump of the back seat.

The idea is to make and install a Non permanent (Can Clip off if needed) subwoofer and middle arm rest with cup holders just like the R35.

My photo shop skills are crap but this is the rough idea but with more of a OEM / modern look to blend in with the skyline seats

So let me know your thoughts and suggestions

Just stick a 10 or 12“ pre amped vibe bass box in the boot and change your speakers and add one set of good quality tweeters and it'll sound awesome and be less headache and be cheaper to do..... Job done

Seen something similar to this and it's a great idea. Probably the stereo in mine is the least invested in item although did upgrade speakers etc. (So a bit rubbish). I looked at the flat type bass speakers, but even they would be a push to fit under the seat. Can't see that a boot install would work great, unless you were going for that 80's impress the kids on the street feel.

Don't know if r33 have it but on the r32 there is a metal panel between the rear seats and the boot. Bolts into place so unlikely to be structural. I had thought to replace that panel with a panel with a sub in. Enclosing the area behind it shouldn't be too hard and it should be removable without too much hassle.

That idea will be a headache to do, and probably still only able to use shallow mount subs.

I'd rather just put a shallow mount sub underneath the front seat.

Are you sure? It's very flimsy.

Put your foot down; open your windows; drive it hard as it was designed to do and you will not even bother to put your hi-fi on.

Save your money and invest the funds in making it drive harder and faster.

I bought the JL shallow mount sub box, fits nice and snug under the rear strut brace in the boot and quick and easy to remove for track events. Good amount of bass, nothing windscreen shattering, more SQ than SPL.

Went from Portsmouth to Brighton and back this morning on the country roads, no music just the sound of an RB26.....

I used to be like this, rip out stereo etc for lightness.

Truth is, nothing beats having a stereo on a long, dreary trip on a motorway or when sitting in traffic.

I have a single sub in my boot and it's more than adequate.

I love the engine noise, but I also love bass. I don't want to add to much weight so I was thinking about doing a spare wheel hole enclosure. Has anyone done that on here?

I have had a 12" sub in the spare tyre well, they don't work too bad but to do it properly you will need to fibreglass it.
I now have two 5" Focal Utopia Subwoofers in each rear seat footwell.
