GTR34 Stock Turbos at 1.2bar

Gentlemen,

I need some advice...

If the stock GTR34 bearing turbos are incapable of sustaining 1.2bar of boost because their wastegates aren't big enough and will self destruct, wouldnt the addition of a big single external wastegate solve the problem?

(this would mean welding the stock actuators in their shut position, cutting a hole in each manifold and welding on two cast iron pipes merging into one big 48mm external wastegate)

What say you? Will it last?
