Top Mount Twin Setup?

Cheers!

What brand could you use for a high mount twin setup? Don't you need to modify and/or exchange extension pipes and downpipes when doing this? I do know that I need a new exhaust manifold...

Is there any brand that has a complete solution for an operation like this? I kind of fancy the idea of using the same brand (HKS, GReddy, etc) as far as possible when tuning the enginge.

Grateful for any assistance.

Sorry, just showing you all what a moron I can be sometimes.

I currently drive a BCNR33, as indicated in my signature.

But I would really appreciate it if you would supply me with information regarding both the BCNR33 and the BNR34.

HKS sell one of the more common set-ups.

They only sell kits for R32 and R33 although I have an R32 top mount kit on my R34.

I originally bought the kit with 2835's, but I have now fitted 3037S turbos to the original manifolds.

Trust and Apexi also do kits but I am not familiar with them.

I still have the 2835's that came with my kit 2500 miles from new. £1300 for the pair. You would need to get the rest of the kit to use them.

Here is a picture with the 3037S turbos for you to consider.

The R34 has an exhaust gas temperature probe that needs to be fitted to the R32 kit, otherwise it is a bolt on job.

The filters and inlet pipes shown in the picture were made up by me and are not part of the HKS kit.

Many thanks for your information. Is there any part number for the BCNR33 kit from HKS that you know of?

By the way, that is a VERY nice looking engine you've got there. Thanks for sharing.

The R33 GTR 2835 kit is 1103-RN025
The R32 GTR 2835 kit is 1103-RN024

These are the only two HKS top mount kits I am aware of for the GT-R and come with all parts including air filters, dump valves etc. but not the silver heat shields over the turbines.

You will find a list of the HKS turbo specs here

Many, many thanks for your replies Hugh, you've been very helpful. It was just the sort of information I was looking for.

One final question: Do you know of any dealers in UK or Japan selling these (website with prices etc)?

Just to add to what Hugh has already explained, you can also put your own kit together using the HKS "setup kit". This is what I did for my combination. The kit includes the manifolds, gaskets, etc. but no turbos. Most of the HKS top mount turbos will fit the setup kit (e.g. 2835, 3037, 3040, etc.). They all run with the GT25 turbine flange and are a bolt on process. If you then want to have HKS downpipes, catalyzer, exhaust, etc., that's also not a problem. Having said that, these mainstream parts can be readily custom made if you have special requirements.

Cya O!

How do you solve the bit with the L-bows and downpipes when using a top mount twin setup? If you were to use HKS parts, these are made to fit the standard low mount twin setup, right? Do you have them custom made for you?

Take alook at these pictures mate. I presume those down pipes in the pics bolt to the rest of your basic downpipes where the normal low mounts would meet.

I'm a newbie, so please forgive the questioning. Is there any performance benefits from top-mounted twin turbos?

Or is it done for fitment and aesthetics?

Top mount turbos are higher performance than the underslung siblings.

If you look at the HKS turbo specs I linked to above the 2835 x 2 is the smallest top mount set-up you can go for.

The largest underslung set-up is GT-RS.

Top mount turbos run cooler since they are more exposed to the airflow through the engine bay.

Thanks for the info.

Would you say the 2835 is less responsive than a single T04Z?

I'm considering upgrading from stock turbos to either T04Z or 2530s.

I'm into road racing and canyon runs more than drag.

I like the idea of the 2530s, but I noticed there isn't much top end performance.

Any thoughts?

there is a guy in my town here using 2530s on his R32 and he is running a 10.3 quarter mile. We bought a 2nd hand trust TD05 high mount twins kit, and are yet to fit it up.
