HELP NEEDED FAO GTR owners with 19 inch alloys
I have 9.5x19 Nismo GT4s fitted with 275/30/19 Falkens that are getting ready for replacement. The problem is the 275 Falken seems very narrow for a 275 tyre and even tho the tyres have a rim protector triangle the rim protrudes about 3mm further. This has resulted in me marking 2 rims at parking speed due to potholes. Sadly Falken dont do a larger 30 series 19 or I would have gone for 295s going on their 275s width.
I am looking at changing tyre brands purely to afford some protection for my rims as in every other dept the Falkens were spot on. Basically I'm looking for recommended tyre brands/sizes [265/275/285/295] plus to know that the rim protector actually works and protrudes past the rim face. Any feedback really appreciated. |

I have same problem and will see where this thread goes.
I like the Falkens but hadn't investigated larger sizes as mine are relatively new.

Yeah, Falkens are deffo narrow compared to other tyres out there in my experience.
My 265/30/19 Yokohama tyres on 9.5 inch rims certainly protrude past the rim by a bit, but I definitely wouldn't want to go scrubbing against kerbs to try it. My sister has Toyo T1-Rs on her MR2 Turbo, and they have a big rim protector bit, that extends far more than my Yokos. She's never tried it along kerbs either though. To be honest I'd be surprised if a centimeter or so or rubber rim protector on a tyre could prevent the rim scraping the kerb. Just think how heavy the car is, and how much grip there is on the other tyres pushing the rim towards the kerb. Best bet is to park three feet or so from the kerb like me. You look a complete tool that can't park for toffee when there's a row of cars and your's is sticking out a mile, , but at least it won't cost £400 each time you park for a replacement rim. ![]() |
