Gearbox Rebuild?
Picked up a secondhand gearbox the other day for R32GTR, been told it's all good but to be fair to the seller he wasn't 100% sure, so i figue it could be time to get my hand's dirty and have a look inside
i havn't done anything on this scale before but would like to give it a go (i have a few mechanically minded mates who will help), does anyone know of a proper workshop manual/ breakdown in english that might be out there, i already have the engine manual on pdf but hoping there might be similar for the gearbox or someone out there might have one i could scan or copy?Any help greatfully received![]() |

Are you willing to roll both trouser legs up for 3 years ?
If you have a spare then open it up You will be 5 years old again in minutes looking at your dads watch in bits.I fully believe gearboxes should be taken to the nearest specialist ! Normally found in Cave like premises decorated in pentangles Go on get involved its not rocket science ![]() Then take the bits to the Cave At least you will know what he is mumbling about When you pick it up and have ascertained the warranty, just nonchalantly drop 750 hp into the conversation Seriously though gearboxes to take much more power are a problem for those who have not won the lottery ![]() Cokey |

You can change the outer layshaft bearings and input shaft bearing without a complete strip down. But to do a proper job you need the factory press tool to remove 5th gear or a copy of, which for a one off would not be worth the investment.

Appreciate the reply's. Perhaps i should have been a bit more accurate with the help i can call on....WHEN (not if!) i start tearing my hair out (which i will!!
), one is a mechanic with 20 years behind him the other is a motorbike engineer (regually puts things back together that have no right to be put back together). However it's always good to learn something new and i would need some sort of workshop manual to start at ground zero soooo anything out there![]() |

The R32 workshop manual available to download as .pdf from www.gtrcentral.com and has the gearbox instructions.
Looks like their server is down at the moment though. Be warned R32 boxes need about £1000 in parts to upgrade to the later style synchros used in later 33's. |
