R33 GTR Transmission

Were there any differences in transmissions on the R33 GTR for a 1995 model and 1998?

I think the S3 gearboxes were supposedly stronger.

Sorry mate I meant to get back to you on the other thread. The series 3 gearbox 97 onwards has a stronger 3-5th gear and also stronger synchros. You can still get parts for the series 3 but not for the earlier ones, that's why I was looking for a series 3 box.
Unfortunately there is no way to tell the boxes apart either unless you actually take them apart as they don't have any external part numbers and look identical.

No problem mate, Im going to go ahead and just rebuild the box in the car at the moment and put the other one which was bought from GTBITZ with 28000 miles on it with a transfer case on ebay and see what I get for it.

You can get a full rebuild kit for yours for about £500 which is a full set of bearings and new synchros. If you take yours apart and send me some pics of the synchros, I can compare them to make and make sure it's a series 3 before you order the parts if you like.
I would take that other gearbox off you myself but I've got a warranty paying for mine so I need to buy it from a vat registered company ideally, otherwise I've got to dip in to my own pocket.
If you come in to any problems give me a shout, I've done a fair bit of research on the gearboxes.
Mookistar likes this.

Where would you recommend getting a rebuild kit for a 33 gearbox Danny? I will be getting mine done in the near future.

Conceptual tuning I think are the company who put the rebuild kit together, give them a ring. It has to be a series 3 gearbox though.
