was at abbey for mapping today - it ended like this after 4 pulls on the dyno

after talking to Mark and Andy I think the most likely cause is over tightening of the alt belt which I did to try and cure some belt squeal

means I need a new water pump, rad, fan and viscous coupling plus all the fitting.

the last full run Mark manage he got 355 at the hubs which is a long way off the power I was hoping for as well, but he hadn't really got started with the mapping.

f**ked off beyond compare right now.

just had the call from Abbey.

It is back together, has been on the dyno and showing 407.4 bhp at the hubs, so somewhere around 450 at the fly.

Lower than I had hoped but a decent result still. I need to drive it for a while and decide if I do want more and am prepared to pay for it. There probably isn't much more to come from the turbo so my options are to change the ECU to allow more fine tuning of the map and eke a bit more out, or change the turbo and re-map or both.

Either way since the savings account has taken a proper battering this year I am going to wait and see for a while first.

It is back home now

it feels pretty savage, boost hits hard and fast. I am still taking it pretty easy so not tried any launches yet, and not given it full throttle for long as I need to get used it again.

Plan is to run it relatively gently for the next 1000 or so miles and then do another oil change.

It will all be worth it in the end chap....

400@hubs on a GTSt is going to be fun

I was hoping for closer to 500 at the fly, but am happy enough for now.

Another mini update, mark commented on how much of a handful the car was, more than it should be for the power were his words! He suggested that I get the alignment checked, but that was one of the last jobs hat andy did before the running in map so I didn't think it would be that.

It was incredible hard on the suspension so I put it down to that and resolved to soften it up a bit at some point,so after a half spin today on a roundabout while pressing on and when trying a hard launch having it wag it's tail like a dog I decided to look at the suspension.

The long and short of it is that each corner was set different, rear drivers full hard, front pass full soft the other two somewhere in between. I can only surmise that when mgt fitted it they didn't check how it was set.

Took it out and immediately it feels much more composed on the road, I have it set to 'standard' I may set it slightly harder, we will see I guess.

Also had a look at the rear lights as I had a leak and found one was missing a seal, must have been when they were re-fitted for me when they repaired the side so was a bit dis chuffed about that! But gave both lights a good going over with sealant and will hope that fixes it.

Thought it was time for another update now I have been running the car for a while, it is a daily driver so has been used in all weather (was fun in the snow!) averaging around 15mpg for extra urban use on moderate driving. Power delivery is still savage I don't think I will ever get used to just how hard and fast it hits.

I had to get the starter refurbished as it kept stranding me everywhere, but the one advanatge was it was never to difficult to get a push start from people

I keep thinking about changing the ECU from the PFC to a link but at about £2k to do it I just can't decide if that nmoney would be better spent on paint - any thoughts?

Well today I spent some time doing some more sound deadening, did the rest of the boot (had only done about a third of it before) and then put a layer of LUxury liner pro down, I then moved onto the drivers door and for the first time in 15 years of tarting about with car audio I properly deadened the doors and what a difference it makes!

It will be interesting to see if it cuts out some of the motorway drone that is so annoying on long journeys, I still need to dote passenger door but that is a job for tomorrow

WOW what a difference the deadening makes, the car is actually a pleasure to be in on the motorway at cruising speed none of the drone from the exhaust, the only problem is that I can now really hear how poor my speakers are!

Oddly two people have now told me that the car sounds quieter from the outside as well- how does that work????
