Rear wheel arch rust

Like me, are you having your rear wheel arches go rusty?
Shitsan don't care. Okay, it's nearly 8 years old, however, it's only done 40k miles, and it's garaged. The rust started a couple of years ago too. That would have been 30k miles. What a piece of junk.

Never heard of or seen rusty arches on an R35. Will be interesting to see other responses to the thread.

Interesting question is how can you treat them, then protect them in future? If it's happened to you itll probably happen to most so interesting to see how our babies can be protected.

I would look for a plastic car then!

Not seen any issues on the GT-R with rust, has it been repaired in the past? Original paint? As Nissan has the 12 year warranty, so they would surely warranty it?

Literally did just dribble a little bit of peppermint tea out of my mouth when I read that.

You are of course right, they will never pay it.

Carbon fibre. Or, as Shitsan spell it, fiber.

For the anti corrosion perforation warranty, you have to have the car seen by Shitsan every twelve months. It's in the nano print. Apparently. Or so the bastard at Shitsan said.

I've had the car from new. No bumps. No paint.

There have been some rust issues with other vehicles. Around the wing mirrors.
Some guy in Europe somewhere had his rear sub frame rust right through.

But wheel arches? Surely that's the place to put the factory effort in?
Never had a car with rusty wheel arches before. Even my 23 year old Misti GTO twin turbo didn't have any rust there. 1992 backwards to 2009. FFS.

Anyhow, the warranty isn't worth the paper. These things are shit. Germany here I come.

R35 rear arches are very vulnerable, I'm surprised they don't come with a clear protection wrap over the sharp edge, the paint can get chipped there so easilly, then it's just a matter of time for the rust to set in. I've never seen rusty ones, but plenty of stone chipped ones, then at 8 years old the chips are bound to rust.

I read somewhere in the handbook that the 12 year corrosion warranty only covers rot starting from the inside out, so not surface rot probably caused through stonechipped paint.

Try not to hate the car because of your arches Wingedbeast, just get it sorted for a few hundred quid and enjoy the car

Obviously fell out of love with it then? Thought I'd remind you of this:

my GTR has gone, now I'm lost!

There was another one somewhere else where you said you were going to keep it forever and be buried in it but I can't seem to find it. Maybe I imagined that?

Corrosion is becoming an all to often issuse now with these cars. We offer superb alternatives to the factory sealants and paint which will outperform them in every way.

Or try and take the exhaust off, still something as slow as any BMW must have something going for it:sadwave y:

Ive lost count of the amount of little boys with M3's that want the rear box cut open and bypasses done so it sounds fast innit LOL

Before I bought mine, I looked a 5 others. All of them had corrosion in varying degrees.

Around the wing mirrors, at the bottom of the black triangle in front of the wing mirror, at the bottom of the doors and the wheel arches. The arches did seem to be from chipping mainly, but the doors just from behind the paint near an edge.

Interestingly, most of the cars that had chipped arches, were running wider than standard tyres. Which of coarse makes sense as the stones will flick into the sharp arch edge more often.

Good point about the wider tyres Sam. I guess at 8 years old the 09's are getting on a bit now, it's not unreasonable to expect some corrosion, and like I always say, as lovely as it is it's not an ornament so is bound to show signs of wear and tear as it gets old.

I was under a 13 plate M3 on the weekend, and that was actually ok for a change. Most are covered in surface rust after a couple of years. My M4 was not amazing, and had little miles on it. Some i have seen are just utter rubbish! Best was the R8, though its aluminium
