Well, ve got the downpipe sussed at late. I've had to extend it 40mm, move the wideband tapped boss and alter the angle on dangle.
Because the T51r is sooo big, the exhaust side is close to the inner wing. When the RB30 is used(extra height) the turbo(exhaust side) is about 1mm from the inner wing. So I've rotated the turbo on the manifold a little to even up the clearence. Now both sides(compresser/exhaust) are about 5mm from the inner wing. I might have to 'tweek' the bodywork at a later date is this distance proves inadiquate. Hopefully, all the exhaust will be completed friday. Only the inlet to go. Most pics to follow soon. The downpipe will look very home brew due to my welding skills. But hey, nowt wrong with good old DIY. ![]() |

Great thread and Excellent work R32 COMBAT! lots of things to learn, one question - Apart from measuring ex. temp (with 6 EGT gauages?!), do the thermocouples serve any special function e.g. feed back to the AEM EMS to alter fuelling etc...

I think the AEM can only use 1 thermocouple input. It's such a long time since I've used it I can't rightly remember.
What I'l do is find the leanest cylinder, plug that one into the AEM and let is tweek all the cylinders to correct that one. Well, thats the plan. |

Another weekend drifts by, and I'm a lot closer the finishing now.
Firstly, for all those against the look of copper pipe.. ![]() I've fitted the Nismo clutch slave now, but I had a few problems bleeding it, so I binned the clutch seperator thing. Look how simple it is now.. We made a new bit of COPPER pipe up, altered and re-located the flexi bracket and bingo, job done. I made bleeding much easier.. ![]() The single throttle is now done, which is a great relief. Ever though the head is 40mm higher up, the hardpipe still fits ok. We added a bit onto the throttle cable and tweeked the throttle cable clamp bracket. I'll pop up those photos soon. Here is the TB on the plenum ![]() ![]() It looks a lot more like a complete engine now.. Now the vacuum pipes can come off the plenum and so does the MAP sensor. I've screwed that into the bottom out of sight.. All the dump valves and pipe work have been removed. I'm going for 2 Greddy pressure relief valves instead. These should ensure no boost is lost during gear changes. I need to mount them as close to the side of the TB as possable, so I think they will have to go into the last piece of hardpipe. These is where the DV's were ![]() And here is the Greddy pressure relief valves. ![]() Tomorrow will be the exhaust final fitting and hopefully, the oil catch tank. |

It's in and running now. There were a few problems to overcome. Here is the short list:-
1) A leaking oil hose coming from the remote filter housing 2) A leaking oil return fitting from the turbo. That was my own stupid fault for making the adapter bung too short. The quick fix was to plumb the pipe into the oil breather retunt hose that goes straight into the sump. 3) The exhaust camshaft oil seal seem to leak for a reason I've yet to investigate. 4) The fuel return hose leaked from the fuel rail. A damaged hose was the cause. 5) The Q45 TPS is wired up the opposite was round to the RB26 one. When setting it up in the AEM, WOT was infact no throttle and vice versa. Apart from that, after an age trying to prime the oil pump, it fired up on the 1st turn of the key, 8bar of oil pressure. Jobs a goodun. I've only run it for 30mins so far. I need to change the oil seal and then I can take it down the road for a cruise... Here are some more pics.. Here are the 2 pressure relief valves and the pipe that goes to the boost dial in the car. We want to measure the pressure difference across the butterfly to measure the effectiveness of the valves. ![]() ![]() ![]() It's really doesn't look much different to the RB26, and I'm sure to the untrained eye, you just wouldn't know.. Here is the gubbings under the plenum ![]() I desperately need to get some miles on it now and start the mapping again.. |

I got an MOT today. Cool.. And on the way home, the ignition fuse blew, causing a nasty traffic jam for a few mins while I located and fixed the problem.
It was caused by drawing too much power from the ciragette lighter socket we think. The AEM draws a little more power than the STD ECU, so I've ungraded some of the harness and diverted some of the live wires around the ignition circuit. I hope this fixes the problem.. The cars feel very responsive compaired to the RB26, even at light throttle.. Much mapping fun to have in the next few days.. I'l keep you posted. ![]() |

Congratulations m8
![]() Awesome piece of work you've done there - been watching the build & pics with great interest... Thanks for taking the time to write it up btw ![]() Mind and post up some vids of the Beast in action ![]() ![]() Cheers ![]() Rog |
