Hi Andy;

Are you using the standard gearbox internals? I understand high torque is known for grenading 3rd and 4th and also making the case walk about. It's not a headache I need for a daily driver and I'm not keen to shell out mega $ for new gearsets. Would defeat the purpose of having something like this if it was detuned to let the gearbox live. I'm only going to run R34N1s but still the torque will be significant.

Cheers

The gearbox will be STD. It's a low mileage late 33 box, which i'm led to believe is the pick of the bunch. I've no intention of changing it yet. I'm not looking for monster performance, just something a little more fun for popping down the shops in.(yeh, right)

If it does prove problematic, then I'll have to re-think my options..

I guess it's just a case of 'suck it and see'.

I've just fitted a Nismo Super coppermix twin plate and its superb.

No noise on depression on the release of the clutch pedal, very soft bite.

Perfect for the wife..

I also fitted the spigot bush in the end of the crank, which has stopped the odd noise I was getting. It's taken 6 hours, but its been well worth the effort.

Now the water pump appears to be leaking.

Bloody cars....

A job for tomorrow. At least this one is easier on the RB30, well, it is on mine.

Removing the box is a right sod..

Hi Andy;

Did you have any problems with the radiator filler height? Just wondering if the 38mm put the top of the engine sufficiently high that the height of the radiator filler was no longer effective?

Cheers

Mark

I've not noticed any problems with the extra heigh of the block as far as the cooling system goes. Apart from a small leak I need to find.

Does your water pump have a horizontal slot rather than a 7mm round hole where the M6 bolt goes?
If so you may not have sealed the pump to the block well enough in that area.

Indeed, the water pump has the horizontal slot.

I've not had time to look at it yet. Thanks for the tip.

its simply a 3 litre single cam engine made specifically for australian delivered r31 skyline and holden (a subsidiary of Chev).

cars over here are making in excess of 1000rwhp without NOS and running well into the 8sec's on qtr miles.

Andy, amazing thread, thankyou.

Q; Will you be attempting to put together a list of all components needed in this conversion, which price you paid per item and where you sourced each part from?

Q; What pistons, rings and rod's did you use, (can't recall any info on this hardware).?

Thanks again for posting this all up, it's something I'd love to do in a year or so time.

I've had a couple of oil leaks that I've been slowly fixing. Nothing major, just annoying.

One was the oil feed elbow. I've made an 'O' ringed -12 JIC adaptor and used Speedflow elbows here.

I've also fitted a better exhaust, one that is more than a steraight through piece of tube. It's a HKS hi-power silent 409. It's a good sounding exhaust...
