Speed-Limiting Mystery

Hi,

I was wondering if you may be able to help me. I recently bought a 1990 R32 GTR and have noticed that at around 110-115 mph I hear a warning signal eminating from the dash board (seems to be coming from behind the dials) that sounds a little like an indicator signal. Then, at 120 mph, the revs cut out and limit the car's speed.

The mechanic who worked on this car prior to me picking it up is a bit baffled by this and suggests it must be something aftermarket as any standard speed-limiting has already been disabled via the gearing. Have you ever heard of something similar happening before?

The reason I ask you is that I am not too far away from Oxted, and if you could fix the issue for me it would be easier than taking it back to the mechanic whom I originally sourced it from (although i'm certain he'd rectify the issue for nothing and has been great thus far).

I was considering maybe killing two birds with one stone and doing some simple stage one upgrades at the same time, if you think you can solve the problem above.

Many thanks
Ben

Hi Mark,

Just to say that I still plan to come down to you on Saturday morning to check this out if that's still ok? What time do you open for business?

Assuming that work needs to be done, would I be able to book the car in next for next Friday?

Cheers,
Ben

oh really? If that's the case, I may hold off on coming tomorrow then what with the football and everything

There's no real rush, and i'm on holiday for a couple of weeks at the end of next week, so unless you could book me in (to look at the car and do any work) for Friday 30th June, I might as well pop down some time in early July.

Hi Mark,

Ok, i'm back from holiday now and in a position to get this sorted out again.

I'm thinking that simply going for the Apexi FC and Commander unit will be my best option. I want to use the car on the track so the flexibility will come in handy.

How much would it cost to have this fitted (along with the remapping of the CPU etc. to remove the limiter)?

Cheers,
Ben

Hi Scott,

I ran this buy you a few weeks back and you were a bit flummoxed but suggested that you would think about it and call me back. You never did.

No biggie, but i'd really like to get this sorted and a few other things in the process. I have some brakes that need fitting, and would potentially like to consider an ECU upgrade.

What do you suggest at this stage?

Cheers,
Ben
