USSC at Crail (and SteveN)

Apart from Bill out in his new car and that sweet R32 (with mangled bumper) there wasnt very many skylines up for USSC. Infact, there werent a lot of very fast anythings out for the event.

Was there some other big event on that I missed?

SteveN - Do you always limp like that or did one of the pole dancers catch your pods in a private preview?

Ignore me, was thinking about the wrong show!

Although, with so many shows being held at drag strips, they're gonna get a lot less people attend, as not everyone will attend every show, so you'll end up with the same amount of people spread across more shows.

I think the fact they moved the date so far forward caught everybody by surprise and nothing was really ready for the day.

I was gutted to find out that SteveN was there on the day and I missed him  Jav (white MR2 seagull killer) had a race against him in there carlton

Well done to Dave in the Micra for winning best FWD and beating the Skyline for the overall win. Jav was trying out the new suspension and tyres on the MR2 so we can try and run it in a road format as opposed to drag, Davie was trying his best to break the white Evo with gas but came second in the 4wd class and Andy had trouble with the clutch slave on the day in the silver R32.

Bills alledgedly ran very badly with fueling problems

Shame, as I said if they would have made it closer to the date it normally runs I can assure you there would have been some very fast cars there and thats just from our stable.

All in all though the weather was good and everybody seemed to enjoy it

We were a touch ****ed off they decided to rank the RWD finals the way they did, defies logic imho, but c'est la vie. Was up acting as team support for my mate in his Supra. He got to the semi's in rwd.

Micra was nuts plain and simple!

The white 32 did look like it wasnt running right tbh, I was surprised to see it parked up for most of the day but you dont wana blow up a fresh car.

Nothing surprises me about Crails rules these days It does seem they are trying a bit harder but its basically an "entertainment" based venue as opposed to a "competative" venue.

True.

Once again, trackbite promised, didnt materialise. They did have one of the crew standing hosing the pre-staging area though. Great for those who dont want wet tyres at the start

I may be wrong on the ranking, but when I organised biking events and we did head to head knockouts, we'd rank it 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3. Basically, 1-4 and 2-3 means there should be at least 1 close race. 1vs3 then 2vs4 basically ensures two predictable wins.

I was just amazed how quiet it was though. We are talking a mag day, USSC even, and there was at most a 20 car queue at the busiest times of the day.

Just bad timing I think as regards the event.

That and Wullys left it all to late I feel in other departments, most of the people who were truely into the racing/cars have now either upped our game and moved on or given up due to cost/other commitments.

Its ok Crail saying ohh we have doen this we have done that but its too little too late unfortunatly, the surface and facilities are down right dangerous for a high power car to run on.

You get into some of the bigger cars and think "ok I have a limited number of races before something breaks" so really running at a venue where you know your vehicle will not be able to perform to its best is not really an option.

That and the scene kinda fractured and split quite a bit up here with one thing and another. I think this will be a down year for the cars personally untill some for of regulation is put in place not just for Crail but for many other venues ... the facility to quite simply "buy your way to the top" has ruined the whole scene for the people who mattered the most and thats the enthusiasts.

I was excited about the drift cars but then ... well lets just say money got involved again. FWD has always been a good bet as of yet nobody has really jumped in so people like AndyN, the CRX guys and David Bull have been able to actually have a chance to get in and do some good work over the last few years.

I should have my house finished by next year but chances are I will just make something for the track or drift as opposed to drag, see what happens.

Anyway, good luck and regards to your friend in the Supra ... perhaps next year!!

Coloursfest was on the night before so that could of kept alot of people away, i know a few of my mates were there.

The grey 32 was Walter (i think) he hit a deer on the way to max power a couple of weeks ago! Credit to him for bringing it back and putting on a good show. he said it was reving to 9k

Like Marc says my car died early on after only 2 runs but hopefully its just the slave.

I was surprised at the poor turn out and the fact that those who were there all left kind of early. I was there till 6.30 waiting on the AA!
