You might find on hair pins it's quicker to slide round, keep the back wheels spinning and more importantly the revs up. Once you straighten up and the rear wheels grip your revs will be a lot higher. That's on standard Joe-public 4 stroke karts I've used. I'm told it's a different ball game when using 2 stroke karts as the acceleration is much better anyway.
