Behind the intercooler but in front of the rad.
Not sure on what my new oil temps are going to be as I now have a RIPS extended/baffled sump. Plus I replaced the take off point which had the thermostat in it and replaced it with another without one so that I could install the Defi oil temp sender. Simply put, I have no way of shutting the oil flow off to the oil cooler. I was talking to Rob @ Rips about this who commented on the fact that he doesn't use an oil cooler on his drift car with the sump modification and his temps don't get high. Looks like I might have trouble on warming the car up, if so I'll probably make some kind of cover for it for cold days. Also, I'm not a fan on having the oil cooler exposed. I'd rather have that inevitable stone that gets thrown up by the car in front smack into my intercooler rather than the oil cooler. Cheaper to replace your FMIC than it is to renew the bearings. |

GTR-J is almost exactly the same as my setup.
If you put it in the front spoiler, dont forget that the air has to get out somewhere ..... Re Robs comment, drift cars dont do lap after lap on the redline ....as long as track cars do. If you fit something too big you can always block off 50% of the fins ... Last edited by GT-R Glenn; 24th March 2008 at 04:32 AM. |

By far the best all round system we've used is the heat exchanger in the bottom tank of the radiator as per the R34 Stealth Bomber, oil temps come up quicker and I've never been able to get the oil temp more than 10 deg higher than water temp, they are compact, simple and have short lines, no worries with stones etc either.
The downside is you have to buy a 90mm thick radiator at the same time and although they seem expensive initially, once actually in the car, they work out well against buying a big rad and oil cooler and installing both properly. Rob
