IMPORT CHARGES.

Ive been looking at parts for my gtr on Nengun, they seem very resonable.I know that when importing you have to pay vat and import charges, but what percentage does it work out at? Has anyone dealt with Nengun before? Could you shead some light on the process and charges . Thanks alot dan.

VAT is 17.5%

Customs duty is between 1-25%, depending on what Tariff code the goods are under. If you're talking about car parts, you'll be looking at the higher end of that scale.

So about 30% of the total value of the parts needs to be tacked on. You'll also pay a "handling fee" of about ***163;15 to Parcelforce.

I've bought plenty of stuff from Japanese suppliers, and a fair few people on here have used Nengun.

Car parts are usually around 4%, then theres vat on the total, (cost of the part, shipping, duty).

Interesting - what Tariff codes are you using to get 4%?

I've usually been hit for around 20% with the 8708-XX TARIC code, which all car parts should come under. However I know that coding is an art not a science, and canny importers can get massive reductions by some clever wording and lateral categorisation.

Dunno the code, thats what we got charged when we imported a load of stuff, I'll see if I can find the papers if I get a chance, they may not have been classed as car parts, though I have no idea why they wouldn't have!

It depends on how the goods are described on the paperwork coming in from Japan ... if they know their 'onions' they would have found the lowest rate of duty item, and use that description for all their imports.

I have used Nengun before and in fact I'm waiting on some more stuff now from them.

The postage is about £30 for small parts and usually only VAT is added if the goods are under a certain limit (can't remember what it is now but think it's about £36 for the ex Vat value of the goods).

Whether you are charged import duty usually revolves around whether your package gets spotted by customs (they don't check all of them just a few). In the past I have imported stuff from Japan and the US amongst other places and only about 1/4 of the stuff has been hit for import duty.

The courier pays this for you if the sending company hasn't already and then holds on to your package until you refund them if you do get caught by the HMCE. Import duty varies but you should allow 24% to 30% (1.175*1.10) to be added to the ex-Vat price of the motor goods just in case e.g. if the goods cost £100 ex-Vat then you could be looking at max ~£30 extra.

Don't even try and claim duty relief through warranty replacement goods (as I tried ) as it's a right nightmare, just pay the money and hope that next time it's not you they check .

Ordered many parts from overseas mate. You'll be looking at a total extra charge of 22/23% on top of your order value inc shipping. Sometimes if you ask very nicely and are spending a decent amount they might lower the price on the invoice or mark things as Warranty replacements with zero value, for you which can help but since this is a bit naughty they might not, I've not tried Nengun. This is also risky cos it means the insured value is less aswell. In such cases using a premuim courier such as UPS or Fedex will heavily reduce the risk of stuff getting "lost". The extra you pay with their services is worth it

I got a set of LM GT4's from a place in the US though and paid nothing at all when they came over...result

If TNT are the courier they pay the duty for you "in good faith" and then add their own charge on top for doing so (robbing conning tw4ts) , also if it's sent express delivery, you pay charges on the postage FFS!!!

On ebay from jap express 179.99 +18.80 delivery inc vat etc. Am i being stupid or is there nothing in it? And no wait for delivery?
