Question Which oils to use?

I'm going to get the fluids changed in my R32 and need some advice on what to refill everything with.

It's running standard drivetrain, twin-plate clutch and an R33 engine with 34,000 miles under it's belt, FSH. 90% of the time it runs at 0.8 bar, but is mapped up to a smidge under 500bhp (450lb/ft torque) at 1.3bar. Gearbox is fine apart from the usual crunch when going into 4th under heavy load. I've also noticed when <ahem> "giving it some" that rapid changes from 1 to 2 then banging it into 3 I am unable to go straight into 3rd - feels like it's catching on the gate and I have to release pressure on the gearknob and then push it in again.

I'm thinking I should change both diffs, gearbox and engine oil.

That's in in a nutshell

So what oils should I use? I've been reading that maybe I should try Redline Shockproof for the gearbox - but which one?

Any help/advice much appreciated guys (and gals).

Edited to say that I HAVE used the search facility but there's soo much differing opinion/info that I thought maybe it'd help to try and pull it all together on one thread...?

I just put some good synthetic in and it was much better, didn't bother with redline, more of a drag/race spec.

Ask RK what it was.

I got all Motul fluids delivered by Opie for £90, gearbox, transfer box, front and rear diff.

Car is running so much smoother now, even the cold crunch from 1st to 2nd has gone.

True but I look at it like this - even though buying the pukka stuff is expensive, I'm an ignorant noodle when it comes to oils. So if paying a bit more for some spot-on oil means that I get some seriously quality advice like I received from Opie Oils then I'm happy to do just that

I am the same, especially with transmission oils. I had a few emails with him and he recommended the silktran which I have ordered.

Oils are CHEAP considering they are the first line of defence!

Always remember that you will spend more in a month on petrol than you will spend on a whole years oil and that's the good stuff.

Cheers
Simon

PS. It's SILKOLENE SILKTRAN SYN 5 75w-90 top stuff!
