Question which turbo goes bang first

ive been keeping an eye on the turbos on my R32GTR by listening through the hks filters for noises,& i can here a slight whistle from the rear turbo, its not grinding or smoking but it is feeling a bit laggy.

im looking to get around 360-400hp with a remap, & if they go ill get steelies, but because its used every day, & the maintenance is costly, im not to fust about changing them just yet, but was interested to no which turbo to look out for.

thanks guys

is it worth the risk of a rebuild, knowing one of them may be on the way out yet waiting for them to go pop before doing anything? I wouldnt always bet on the blown up turbo wheel exiting out the exhaust

Yeah - rear mostly because it gets hotter do to being more cramped in the engine bay. If you've got the pennies and want to up the power then I'd say change the turbos to steelies immediately. You may have a grand or so for steelies when the factory ones go, but if you get any compressor material sucked back into the engine when it breaks, you'll be spending your turbo pennies along with another raft of cash, on a rebuild or replacement engine

thanks for the comments guys, ive got my eye on a set of R34 standard turbos for now.

will they fit straight onto the R32 manifolds?

the boost today was poor, set at .85 bar, but was only going up to .4 -.5 bar as i opened the throttle, it was like only one turbo was working but then again there was no smoke or screaching noise. ???

thanks again for the feed back, & if anyone has got a good set of steelies for a good price please let me know. cheers

Replace the turbo`s before you do anything else. It doesn`t really make sense to tune the car and then repair it and remap a second time.
From personal experience i can highly recommend putting on R34 turbos as they spool up very quickly, 2100rpm on my car, making it very responsive.
It dont know were you live but it could be worth speaking to Mark at Abbey Motorsport as i got a set from him for £300.
