I've got a tricky 4th gear which I've learned to completely avoid crunching by: from 3rd to 4th, granny-shifting, or going into neutral, letting go briefly of the shifter, then snicking it into 4th. I rarely crunch 4th, even on all out pulls.
From 5th to 4th, a mild double-clutch does the trick. blip the throttle a little (not too much or it'll again crunch), and slide it in. I cannot shift from 5th to 4th normally, unless I wait about five seconds in neutral.
Am using HKS transmission oil, which takes a bit of warming up. But combined with the Nismo solid shifter, I like the feel of my transmission very much.
