Transfer box - what fluid?

What grade / weight of oil do I put in the transfer box?

I have 75W90 and 80W90 Castrol readily available, and ATF fluid for the reservoir in the boot - but surely I dont put ATF fluid in the box itself do I?

Have done a search (non-conclusive) and looked at the workshop manual (Nissanmatic Fluid D, not much help cos I dont know what that is lol)

Help me please

Jeff

Like Philip said, Dextron 3 ATF fluid. Most ATF fluids meet that STD, just look on the bottle..

I was surprised the transfer box takes dextron 111.
As it is a wet multiplate clutch pack, similar to most motor bike clutches.
Must have something to do with the friction material or the way it works ie not much slipping goes on as its on or off.

As in you put this in the transfer box itself - ATF fluid (the red power steering stuff) IN THE TRANSFER BOX????

Yes jeff.

Auto boxes have clutches like the transfer box, hence using ATF fluid.

Got my transfer box dismantled on the bench for new bearings and seals.
Lots of red ATF inside.
