Water leak problem
Having a R33 GTR 1996 that is ****ing coolant all over the place and need
a qouple of pointers before I destroy the car beyond repair. When the engine is cold there is no water leak and everything is hunky-dory. The problem starts when the thermostat opens and starts circulating water. It seems that there is either a leaky hose or clamp that is causing the problem. Found the leak to be under the intake collector and therefor this has to be removed. However, further investigation hasn't helped me actually locating the leaky bit. The issues is that I need to get pressure on the system to visually seeing the leak as it's only happening when the thermostat opens and this can't be done with the intake collector removed. The leak is a "pressurized" leak so it's not a "dripp dripp" or "loose tummy" leak. ![]() SO my question is: What parts of the circulation under the intake collector gets increased pressure when the thermostat opens or is the heating of the water itself raising the pressure? Any "typical" faults that can cause this leak of collant? Yep, have inspected the turbo water feed pipes/joints but is to far away from the location that the leak was spotted. Any ideas where to start or anybody experienced similar problems? |

spring loaded clamp cut thru the the rubber heater pipe that goes to the back of the block,, under 6th intake runner mate...... over time the old rubber pipe swells and splits at the clamp,,,,,,, take starter motor out to investigate,,,,, alot easier than pulling plenum off!!!!

The outlet from the thermostat uses a liquid gasket to seal and is attached with three bolts.....you may need to remove, clean up and replace.
Ties in with the thermostat theory....

Agree with toddrb30gtr.
If the water leak is at the rear portion of the engine probably one of the heater hoses are rotten. So were mine anyway. A picture here: http://img248.imageshack.us/my.php?i...sc001399fh.jpg that shows the two suspected hoses. My leak was found (on the inner hose) by following the brown deposits (radiator sealant) path seen on the engine block. To easier reach the hose-clamp for the actual leaky part I needed to remove the butterfly housings (still in place on picture) as well, (easy job as the intake plenum is already removed). http://img334.imageshack.us/my.php?i...sc001410ze.jpg Picture of my replaced hose with partnumber also.. / R32 GTR PS. Removing intake plenum takes a lot of blood, sweat & tears.. Last edited by bobban; 25th August 2006 at 08:55 AM. |
