8801 and 8800 differ in network frequency

8800: 900/1800/1900
8801: 850/1800/1900

850 network is USA only
EUROPE is 900

To my best understanding, you cannot use 850 phone ( 8801 ) in Europe, since it won't eat 900 frequency. While you CAN use it in the States, since 2 or 3 carriers over there DO send out at 900 instead of 850 ( eg. T-mobile )

That's why I recently decided to stick with the 8800, instead of buying the 8801 in USA
