Solid rear axle is a must for the market anyway. The road racers prefer IRS, but most guys like to drag.

If the States are so behind, why are there cars so much faster in the 1/4?

If your going into build quality, look at the price difference. You can get a 4.6 Mustang GT with a supercharger for a little over $33,000. Thats 500hp for a new car.

Have you driven a 05/06 Mustang? I have, its a darn good ride. I own GTRs, so I do have something to compare it too, do you? I guess you would have, since you made such a bold statement.

Funny thing is, even with the barbaric engine in that Chevy, it still get 500hp, and over 25mpg. Ya, that car really sucks!
That is the fact of the matter and why the USA use V8's ... $33,000 - what a fcuking bargain! And push rods have their merits also being cheaper to produce especially in an engine that doesn't need to rev high (meaning less wear and a lower weight per bhp because of the understressing - normally). Pushrods also have a lower CoG compared to an OHC setup and are cheaper and quicker to work on if you are modding (normally). How the suspension is setup is far more important than what is used. Wishbones and multi-link are expensive, take up space, heavy and break easy compared to simpler designs and if you drive on interstates and good A roads you will never know the different between them. Horses for courses and money v tech.

Look to see what replacement parts cost on the BMW, Mercs, Nissan, Toyota, Porsche, etc, compared to the big three. American cars are a little cheaper, I must say.

I heard once that you could buy a complete set of 8 pistons for the 350 Chevy engine for about £70. Now that's VALUE ...

More like £20 for the cheap cast ones.

Forged pistons, stroker crank, and con rods for under £400.
