But, i still have to ask....

I have seen 3-4 RB26 engines here in Norway been on the rolling road, and dynapak, all of them have shown good / safe fueling + low exhaust temps. Almost every engine has blown due to detonation. Its almost the same cylinders on every engine.

Also on the Fc-Datalogit yahoo newsgroup there are several people reporting ignition scatter at high revs.

I have been tuning engines for some time now, and ALWAYS been recommended to use a crank trigger. Thats why i went for that kind of setup on my car. Plus i figured out how to wire up the AETSSA system. Id rather spend some time wiring up a standalone ecu, than rebuild my engine due to ignition scatter.

Again... thanks for your input, good to see some of the well experienced guys give us some info...

Asim...
Do you mean by "almost the same cylinder".

I have told you what I have found. I have no doubt that the Motec and Autronic stand alone units are very good. The HKS V-Pro can be run stand alone.

Beleive me the Pro is well in front of the Apexi unit but is only as good as the map put into it.
There are many reasons for detonation, not neccessarily timing scatter.

I agree that a crank mounted pick up is probably better, but not worth getting paranoid about.

If you have been tuning engines for some time, just use your experience and get on and do it.
