We had a bit of a mad lightning storm here in sunny (!!) Bolton this morning. Started at 8am on the nose. By the time I got to work at 8.20am there was flashes and rumbles every 10 seconds or so. I went up to our 2nd floor and watched out the windows as a big mill about 500 yards away from us was hit by lightning 2 or 3 times. Then a tree on the other side of the road caught a bolt. Wow.
Now think about this - you normally see the flash then momentarily thereafter you here the rumble or boom. The next lightning strike hit our building. No flash-zap and rumble or boom - just a flash of brilliant blinding light INSIDE the room (!!!) and a God-almighty BANG like a fcuking firecracker the size of a Ford Granada had been set off!!! Everything jumped up in the air (me including)!!! Our telephone system has been fried completely and my computer - which was the only one switched one - got a fried network card and cable. Bear in mind that I was stood NEXT TO my computer, leaning on the window, when we got hit... As our network has a raft of surge protection the IT guy reckons that the lightning must've hit right by the window and some of the charge passed through the brickwork and into the metal of the network cable, feeding back up into my network card. Nice. LOL. I'm feeling very humbled as it was just something else completely. No gentle booo-o--ooo-ooom of thunder - just a massive CRACK lol Lightning & thunder are very, very cool! ![]()

How lucky are you Jim!
Im not keen on thunder and lightening...at 9am the sky darkened and I thought end of the world..hehe My PC was on and I was on the phone too...in a blind panic trying to switch off every electrical equipment round the house. sure it wouldn't of done anything, just something my mum used to do and pull the curtains...lol The thunder was like beng next to concorde taking off and it made the house shake, if I could of fit under my bed I would of hid there...hehe! It's sunny now!

the big one here above my head in Oxford was 9:49am, about 10 big hits, less than 1/2 sec. from light untill the crack.
Thats fast traveling. Andy.
