There is something so wrong about putting turbochargers on a Ferrari, and that is why i love the F40 so.....

I think you have just helped me understand why I love the F40 above all others. Thanks.

Balls the size of Watermelons to drive a 917 down the mulsanne straight at those speeds.

Porsche 917 - Le Mans - On Board - Google Video

rumour has it that a 917 was clocked doing 240mph at night in the early 70's

That clip owns every other in car clip seen on t'internet in my opinion. If you could isolate, synthesize, bottle and sell the adrenaline pumping round that guy's body you would be a billionaire overnight.

Superb.

3 things about that clip.

1. Do you see the way he doesnt even lift off at full speed on the corner just before the end of the Mulsanne... in an era where Racing drivers really did put their lives on the line every time they jumped behind the wheel.

2. The driver makes the 917 look like the Oversteer is really easy to live with, which is why I love my GTR in the current state of tune. In reality, I bet it was like trying to ride a bull on amphetamines.

3. The power delivery looks incredible. You can almost feel the torque the thing puts out at low revs and then howls all the way to top end hp.

oh... and the way he takes one hand off the steering wheel at top speed...

thats 4

Its a fabulous clip, its very moorish in that you cannot just switch it off half way through. In fact I would have sat a watched the thing for the whole 24 hours if it was posted.

Hardly anyone on the planet dislikes Ferraris with the passion that I do - but I do love the F40. Its bonkers.

Well said Dan, and for what it's worth I'n not Maranello worshipper either.

The F40 is a different machine all together though, it is the physical embodiment of someone sticking their two fingers up at Enzo Ferrari and for that I love it.

Well, that is the way I see it anyway - maybe Enzo loved it, but I kind of hope he hated it.

Except that is Derek Bell driving a 956. They were timed at 246mph in 1983/4.

Get the DVD from Duke video. It's awesome.

Watermelons indeed, whatever the car.

Also, if you actually drive down the Mulsanne Straight [I have a few times] that 'corner' is just a mild kink in an otherwise straight road... at 130+ [the most I've done it in] it is quite OK but the way it passes under the wheels at the speed in that clip it is indeed almost a corner.

It takes great confidence to go real quick down that road, it is rough and has some real jump-ups along its length.

Great car, great driver, greater team effort.
