Garage Over-Charging Advice

A colleague at work is blonde and drives a Golf GTi so when she takes her car to any garage it seems like they "see her coming" and rip her off. I have to agree that some of the invoices she's had to pay are overly steep.

Anyway, she's put her car in another garage today to have the undertray bolted back on, to have the brake pads checked and to have a new bulb put in her dashboard to light the buttons and things.

He wanted to charge her £250 for the work which probably took him under an hour.

He quoted £180 for 2 new brake pads + £70 for the labour and for putting on two bolts and 1 bulb.

Does that seem fair to you? My colleague is actually pretty canny after being messed around so much by garages so she's called the supplier for the brake pads. They quoted £130, and her boyfriend checked them last weekend and he says they had plenty of meat left on them, so she's told the garage not to change them.

Do you think the remaining £70 is a fair price though?

For that sort of money you can change the pads on a Skyline

Far to expensive, brakepads for a Golf GTI 130GBP Come on,the whole brake doesn“t cost that much

i dont know where you would buy pads that expensive for a golf (road car), id ask what pads they fitted and where they got them from to justify the price

The thing to do is always get a quote in writing. would you go into a restaurant and order food if the menu didn`t have prices on it?
