The Car went in its own sealed container, once closed this is not opened until received by Rob, it left from Folkestone and it takes 7 weeks to reach Tauranga in New Zealand, this cost £1550 inc insurance .

If you are comfortable sending your car roll-on-roll-off then it can be a lot cheaper.

Cheers Sparks

We have had cars come over in sealed containers for around 900-1000 pound each way, I suppose it depends on where its picked up from, who loads it and how much inland shipping there is to the port.

One good thing about a sealed 20ft container is I personally unlock, unload and bring the car back to our shop, no-one else gets to touch it.

Update 9: Monday 16th April

Rob has been super busy and has sent me some progress pics of how the sump is coming along

In the pics above and below you can see the mock ups of the fins for the bottom of the sump, these are all hand made and each is then individually welded to the sump.

In the next 2 pics you can see the near finished sump. The white coating is for leak testing, the sump once welded is thoroughly tested for any pinhole leaks in the welds, any water escaping reacts with the white coating and goes a different colour. This amount of attention to detail is apparent in everything Rob has shown me for this project, it is incredible the amount of time and effort him and all at R.I.P.S have put into this so far.

Will update again soon,

Cheers Sparks

Did you tender the idea of a dry sump setup?

For the amount your spending/have spent on oil pump, and sump you could have come close to a dry sump setup, just a suggestion

We did consider that but seeing as this was going to be a true full street car and with the costs of a full dry sump system being about twice what has been spent on this system we have decided to go this way.
We are not looking for every last hp and as we have a 100% success rate with our motors done they way we are doing this one, it was deemed un-neccessary.

Some lovely fabrication work and TLC evidently going into this project, will keep following this thread with interest! Love the way stuff just gets made in NZ.. reminds me of John Britten's story.

(If any of you want to see the levels and ingenuety to which Kiwi's can fabricate, check this link: The New Zealand Edge : Heroes : Designers : John Britten : www.nzedge.com and watch the "Britten Bike Story". Probably the most technologically advanced and unique bike made.... And it was ALL built in John Britten's garage during late nights, inclusing casting the engine's blocks, head, etc! This guy is one of my Engineering heroes of all time. Shame he died of Skin cancer at 45. Anyways, I digress - Don't want to Hyjack this excellent thread).

R.I.P.S. customer care looks excellent!

In my experience, Sparks is a great guy to deal with too, which is also equally important here.

Shame we never got to meet when you were out "working" in Japan, but I was away at the time. There may be other events, eh...

Anyways, looking forward to seeing this project come to fruition!

Miguel.

Update 10: Thursday 19th April

Rob and the boys have been working their socks off and loads of the fabrication is all coming together, it looks absolutely unreal

The Sump is now finished ....

and is on the shelf next to the fully completed short block, all wrapped up to keep it nice and clean !!!

The custom mounting plate for the fuel system is installed, with the carpet being custom modified to keep it all looking as stock as it can do

I will leave you with a little teaser pic of the fuel system, it is nearly complete and looks the absolute business

Yet again massive thanks to Rob and all @ R.I.P.S for the quality of their work but also the sheer amount of communication you get from them. These pics were in an email I got when i woke up this morning!!!!! Not a bad start to the day

Cheers Sparks
