Hi,
Does Endless or another company in Japan make stronger rear axle setups for R34 GTR? I need to replace my rear axles and was looing for uprated ones. Any info appreciated.

The OS 3 liter and HKS Hi-Deck are completely different engine's:

- OS 3 liter
STD rb26 block with spacer plate +-24mm (wet style)
86mm stroke x 86mm bore
3 liter

- HKS Hi-Deck
N1 block with spacer plate +- 24mm (dry style)
billet full counter +-73.7mm crank
billet special H beam rods +- 135mm
+- 90mm pistons
cement filled block

Hi Jonne,

Your info on the Hideck is slighty wrong.

Crank is 77.7mm
Pistons are 87.0mm
Conrods are long to increase the stroke (cant remember the mm)
Piston height is different to other HKS pistons, the pin sits higher due to the longer conrod.
the hi-deck plate is 17mm-18mm (measured it now)

Kind regards

Rick

Hi Rick,

That is interesting, why does HKS use lower compression height pistons and longer rods with a spacer plate? I assume they only use longer rods and added the spacer plate to run 30mm compression pistons?
Off course they use the longer rods to get a better rod ratio and less side loading (STD=121.5/73.7=1.65)(HKS HI-DECK=140/77.7=1.8)

Crank 77.7 mm
Piston 87 mm (compression height 30mm or 29mm or 28mm)
Conrod +-140mm
Hi Deck plate 17-18mm

Would be very interested to know the compression height (pin height) of the psitons and the conrod length.

Hi Jonne

The pistons are the almost same, its very hard to explain with words.

Will draw you a diagram so you understand why its a special engine

Hi Jonne, this is a picture I just made to explain the Hi-Deck.

Most of you will know this stuff already, but for thoes who dont I hope this will help. The drawing is obviously not to scale as I wanted to exagerate the difference between the triangles (torque vs high rpm power).

FIG 1: Normal RB engine, you can see the triangle, short stroke engine = high rpm (if only nissan made it billet full counter)

Fig 2: HKS 2.8ltr engine, larger stroke and piston travel so torque is up but high power high rpm is down, notice the difference in piston pin position, with out this and the increase in crank size the piston would cause damage.
However due to the piston pin position being moved, this can cause piston wobble if the block isnt machined correctly. (Piston is now slightly off center/think equal triangle)

Fig 3: HKS Hi-Deck, same piston size and crank stroke as fig 2, but has a spacer plate to allow the use of a longer conrod. Longer conrod is used to keep the high rotation of the RB engine which you can see you lose in fig 2 due to the increase in stroke. The Hideck piston pin is move up yet again to drop the piston back down in the cylinder. As you can see you have a taller centre triangle for high rpm horse power with the benifit of the increase in lowdown torque.

Fig 4: OS 3.0ltr engine. with spacer plate and long conrods to try and counter the large stroke to retain some of the original RB26 properties.
Short triangle but very wide means huge torque but lack of rpm.
Dont know the length of the conrods in mm but they are the same increase as the spacer plate (I think)

Hope that helps

Rick

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the reply. I understand your explanation, it is like I said in the post above, a longer rod for a better rod ratio.

But like you say the rod is the same length longer then the spacer plate, so the piston pin (ea compression height) will stay the same. If you have 4 mm more stroke you need 2mm shorter rod OR 2mm lower compression height pistons (piston pin height) OR a combination.

Are you sure the piston pin is higher up in the piston (28mm or 29mm (30mm standard))? Because if so I do not understand why they do that as the piston would lose strength and they would not be able to use a 22mm pin with 28mm compression height (29 is just possible, 30mm is HKS step 3 2.8 spec).

Hi Jonne,

Yes the pistons pins are different to stop the piston fowling the head (and to avoid using unnecessary head gaskets.

for high power drag we use 1mm - 1.2mmm depending on the power/compression.

Hideck pin is in different location, will see if I can find a hideck piston to show you.

Rick, are these solid subframe bushes??? Can you get them from Nagisa-Auto and if so, how much posted to UK??

Oh, and were you able to get these specs/comparissons of your new exhaust manifolds compared to the Tomei Expreme ones??

Hi TT,

Will speak with Nagisa tomorrow, yes we can can get them and yes they are subframe.

Its says that you can adjust the sub frame 3 differnt heights, by adding the rings.

Will update you tomorrow, and will get the diameter of the manifolds tomorrow too (sorry just had Osaka auto messe stuff on) so much to do and sooooo little time...lol
