People use the button on the traffic lights for many reasons some people aren't as lucky as you and own a car; Not being old enough to own a car, not being able to afford a car, being disabled and not having enough time to get across without getting hit by a car, looking after a disabled person and having to push them across the road (wheelchairs), people with children don't want to risk killing their kids by crossing the road when the reds aren't light (it only takes 1 carelss driver).
I agree with most of what you say but I just felt I had to say the above.
