haha you say that, while ive been having terrible sleep cause i need to talk with Rick and figure out how to keep within our budget, way off right now but working back to it.
Its going to be a really fun car, and really not pushing the engine hard at all, we are aiming to run around the 500-550 mark thats pretty tame compared to some peoples cars here! |

Ill think about it G ![]() Car is on schedule after some small delays due to reorganizing the budget. but otherwise its looking good, Its now at Techno First, chassis welding is getting done along the door seems, inside the engine bay and along the transmission tunnel, should help to tighten up the chassis bring back the new car feel to it. Next step, well...you will have to wait and see ![]() |

welding the chassis will not give the same stiffness as a properly integrated cage. At least as far as i know.
My project is for a road going car its not going to be a full out race car, i wanted some of the benefits of a cage, without the drawbacks of having one in the car, for practicality, and stock appearance. GTRs in Canada, are not so happily accepted by the local cops, adding a roll cage doesnt seems to help with that either. I had the chassis welded because i wanted to bring the car back to that new stiff feeling that new cars have off the line. without the cage. One of the goals we are trying to achieve with this car, is to bring a little "new-ness" to the R32. You will see as the project goes on, what i mean. Anyway, if you are going to make a race prep GTR, do a welding roll cage, none of that bolt in BS, and weld the chassis also. Yes it gives the chassis much more rigidity. As for where and why, that depends on who does your welding, We had Techno First do ours as that is their specialty, is chassis and suspension work, they will be setting our suspension as well. On my car they have done my door seems, transmission tunnel and engine bay. This way, i can avoid using bolt on braces and keep stock appearance on the car..if i want.. ![]() |

Also, if you see proper track cars, they have the cages welded to their chassis in many places, this it to keep the chassis from flexing separately from the cage so i understand, and forms a stronger bond between the original chassis and the new skeleton (cage) so to speak.
Also, Toby, careful of who ever is doing your stitch welding since the base metal (chassis) will be exposed to longer durations of heat, you gotta watch for warping. This is the reason why Nismo bonded the carbon plates to the Z-tune chassis before welding the chassis, the carbon will help against the heat warping the surrounding metal. Also note i not a welder
so dont take my word for anything, for all i know there could be a much better way of doing welds. I THINK i remember that for the Z-tune they used a resistance spot welder for the doors. but im not 100% sure. |

fortunately, machinists and welders and the like may not know *why* or *where* to stitch-weld or what have you, but they're experts and if you instruct them carefully as to what you want, you'll get top-notch work.
But if you just drop something off, you'll get some, uh....creative results ![]() Hence, I've gotten into the habit of hanging around and making sure they're doing what I want to get done. |

doors look easy enough to do, I've got the whole HKS Kansai underbody brace kit so might as well just stick with that. The engine bay will come when it's time...I was told my oil pump was going to break five months ago but it refuses to die
