I've recently fitted an all in one head unit with TV and DVD on the R34 GTR Vspec and at the weekend I hooked it up to the no less than 4 aerials which went into the Xanavi SatNav / TV system unit under the rear parcel shelf as originally fitted in my car.
I've tried splicing the four aerials into two pairs and then run the signal from each pair back to the two diversity aerial inputs on the head unit ... but the reception sucks.... and I can barely get a signal - it's no big deal really but has anyone else tried to use the standard TV aerials? I'm wondering if there is a signal booster somewhere which would have only got activated when the TV was selected on the Xanavi Box.... which i've now disconnected there is a 2 wire block connector in the same loom as the aerials I'm wondering if it needs to have a switched power supply to get a signal off the aerials.... Incidentally the head unit can receive Pal and output NTSC so in theory you could play it out on the MFD... It's not an expensive head unit 100 quid off ebay but there were 1000's of good feedback from other users. It does just about everything... and the radio and DVD work well so the TV should work with a decent aerial...

Everytime I've used TV aerials I've always ended up putting them in either the side windows or the rear screen.
Tried once by hiding them in the rear panels, behind the door card, but reception was never great. I think ideally you need them on the screen

I have a kenwood head unit with TV and the 4 ariels come with boosters.
Reception is actually very good. Ariels are mounted in the rear window. If the connectors are the same, can you not get a set of kenwood boosted ariels?

The car came from the factory with TV aerials in the rear window - there are 4 aerials in all for a ful diversity system - The TV in the car will of course only receive NTSC so I've taken the original Xanavi headunit and boot unit out and I've fitted a head unit with a TV and I'm trying to make use of the aerials that are already in the car but getting near buggerall reception - I need to investigate more as I think there is a signal booster somewhere that is now not getting any power. Just wondered if anyone else had ever successfully used the standard TV aerials. The aerials terminate with the smaller type standard radio connector plugs.

One year on and I discovered something about the R34GTR factory TV aerials which are filaments on the rear window.
I had the rear seat out at the weekend and rear parcel shelf cover (fixing the rear washer) - I noticed the TV aerial wires going up behind the roof rear quarter interior trim panels and traced the wiring to find that there is a Clarion TV aerial signal booster on each side of the car which requires a +12v feed. The 12v feed wire is part of the aerial loom. There is a three core cable going up each quarter panel - The two thicker wires are Aerial coax and the thinner wire is the 12v feed. The 12v feeds are paired off to a plug in the boot which was diconnected. The 4 aerial wires continue to 4 seperate aerial plugs which went into the original (removed) Xanavi satnav/tv unit unit. I've re-wired a 12v feed to the signal boosters I've paired up the coax cables 4 to 2 to go to my new TV unit. - My DVD/TV tuner now works better picking up a better TV signal It has an NTSC video Output so I could wire it the MFD if I wanted but using the screen on the aftermarket head unit. It's still not as good as I was hoping - maybe I shouldn't be pairing up the Aerials? There is also another box under the drivers side rear roof quarter panel which I couldn't quite get to to investigate - I think it might be the GPS receiver with an aerial also wired into the rear screen. Anyway - a bit of info for anyone with an aftermarket TV tuner! Be interesting to hear from anyone succesfully using the original TV aerials.

Malcolm, stop fiddling about.
Its DEAD WEIGHT just SLOWING YOU DOWN. You are NEVER going to watch it as you are driving so what's the point? Your lad isn't bothered unless you can plug a PSP or similar in either and he'll grow out of that soon anyway when he discovers girls. Junk the lot and save a few kilo. DaveG
