You think it really bothers people that much that they pick up a black one rather than a green one?

I don’t think Audi would run it on bog standard diesel, more like the Shell V-Power diesel that burns cleaner and has a higher cetane rating.
I'm sure they would advise you to do the same.

Nope.

I think cars like this however are bought 90% for image. The image they are buying into is tarnished by that black pump, it's just not what they're buying into in my opinion.

I dont care how they sex up DERV cars, they're never going to have the sound and fun of a petrol. Limited rev ranges, huge repair costs and GIANT clouds just dont appeal.

Imagine posing in your new R8 when some boy racer fool pulls up next to you. You know you're above that clown, so you just ignore him, and pull away, leaving a giant cloud of black smoke as your turbos come in... no thanks!

Diesels are there for cheap transport, towing and offroad fun. And I don't see a R8 buyer who pays so much for the car to have it making black clouds and run like a bus just for a sake of having a cheap use of it. Someone who has money to buy such a sports car also has cash to buy an A6 Avant with a diesel engine which could take his family on vacation (most of Audi's buyers have families ).
You can have just one car and use it for everything but nowadays if you're into sporty cars it's just more practical/cost effective to have a family transporter/heavy duty daily driver and have that sporty one just for yourself.

Can't say i can see the point to this car. As said earlier anyone with 90K isn't/shouldn't be worried on petrol costs, and if you use your head the extra servicing/ cost when things break on a diesel means in the long run there's not much in it cost wise. Which brings the obvious comparison which would you prefer, a high revving vocal V8, or an engine that has you changing up at 5000RPM (if your lucky!). TBO the fact that the Diesel will be as fast if not faster than the petrol equivalent seems irrelevant. Which seat would you jump in to get a thrill......... Harrier or 747??, Anyway i'd rather have my 32..........Yes really!

i'd have one for towing
and for the economy
and looks
and performance

and the feeling that i was still 'having the last laugh' after beating someone in a mild tussle in their petrol model
