Hello mate i had an evo 6 a while ago.

They are pretty good solid cars mate but they can eat gearbox's especially with an uprated clutch. The wastegate actuator's normally give up. Knocking front top mounts, and the ayc can play up.

I have a book from the MLR that tells you everything about them. I will try and find it for you and i will send it over

You'd be better of with a 5/6 but a 4 can make for a pretty good bargain. Get your self over to the MLR rake loads of info.

4 is a nicer drive than a 6 narrow track and tyre width mainly (less tramlining)other than that there all same same
gearboxes tend to be strong enough though the 5/6 can shear all the front diff bolts as its a wormgear style
if you want a track capable car get a 4 rs

good points they handle well on the lanes give driver confidence

i had 3 years fault free driving with my 4--didnt get 6 months with my Tommi Mak

From my experience the 4s tend to suffer alot from crankwalk. There is a lot of 4s over here with engines from the 5 and 6.The later engines seem to be a lot stronger/safer.

A friend of mine had a 4, and she said it was the only car that made her cry when she sold it! Hers had no problems, apart from the AYC servicing every 4.5 years and the shit load of fuel it used

Evo 4

Other half has an Evo 4 GSR. We've put nearly 40,000 miles on it.
Only two things have gone wrong:

A coilpack gave up (less than £100 - including Ralliart plugging in diagnostics to tell me what was wrong).

And the radiator went. £280 saw me a Koyo one and she runs noticeably cooler now. Top rad.

Thats it. Its a great car to drive, much nimbler than my R34 (GTT) and actually id say quicker up to abot 70.

Keep changing the oils and they seem to just go on and on. Its done over 90,000 miles now and still feels tight.

She wont ever sell it - and like the post above - i expect tears when it eventually goes!!
