Polar bears are just as damn cute, if it makes you feel any better AK, there are some places that do a tranquilizer and fly the bear away again. There is also some people that tranquilize the bear and put it in a dark box and yell at it for a day, then release it, basically they say it keeps the bears from associating food and other good stuff with humans so it keeps them away..dunno how well that works...

The Japanese are hunting endangered Minke and Blue Whales (among others) Whereas Polar bears hunt Beluga`s (which in themselves are not exactly thriving)... Its worth nothing that Polar bears NEED to hunt whales to survive, Wheras not one single person will die of hunger if we stopped hunting every endangered species on the planet.

I not want to turn AKs rant into the whale debate, there has been enough of that on other forums (Japantoday, gaijinpot ex . . .).

Greenpiss and Australia have turned the issue into an imperialistic western movement against japan, that`s what I ranted about it, in one of my other threads about dolphines . . . japanese people can`t be blamed for not reacting to international protests, as the west is demonizing this same people, Greenpeace would need to actually get a diplomatic solution at all. . . .Especially Australian medias (wich have a racist tendency against japan in general- THE JAPS) have distorted the issue considerably.

Two points I want get answered are the following:
Which company would destroy it`s own income source, here by really exterminating all whales! if they would do that , in 2-3 years they would scrape their 20boats fleet, the ship yards, the local markets and put about 35000peoples in to unemployment.

Then how comes that the local japanese Greenpiss office doesn`t react at all? If the issue is so clear and the whale corps have only idiotic arguments it would be easy for the japanese Greenpiss to make every thing public. Any left magazine or news paper in japan would love to flame the Whale corps , if they had enough arguments against them . . .

By the way one of our european neighbours from the north , also does the same stuff as the japanese, but maybe for Austraila or Greenpeace, wich is a western movement it is more easy to use the still present racist tendencies against asians - japanese, to make up a crusade against japan. . . then going against our peacefull white brothers.

I wouldn`t be surprised if this issue turns in to japanese tourists getting discriminated or even agressed in the west, easy targets.

I watched a program on BBC 2 last night where a pod of dolphins saved a group of swimmers from one or two Great White sharks, in NZ. The scientific synopsis of this was that these mammals knew another type of animal was in danger and collectively put themselves in peril to help.

At the same time I remembered certain groups of 'fishermen' regularly hearded these poor creatures into shallow water, then hack them to death ....... brilliant

I'm sorry to have to be so blunt but you're full of shit. Dress it up anyway you want but the facts are clear. Japan states this is for scientific research purposes but this is clearly a lie. To suggest that whaling forms a significant part of the Japanese economy is total poppycock. 35,000 people, not a hope in hell.

In 1986, the International Whaling Commission banned commercial whaling. Scientific research, however, is still allowed. Japan has killed about 7,000 minke whales in the name of research since 1986 and, as the London Guardian writes, "insists the missions are vital to a better understanding of the mammals' migratory, feeding and reproductive habits".

wat about the chinese fur trade,thay skin dogs and cats alive,thay even treat bears really bad as well as thay lock them in a small cage put a pipe in them to extract the bile from them,in south africa thay breed lyons for rich folk to shoot,even the french lock ducks in small cages forse feed them so as ther liver gets inflamed,which thay make some so called posh patty from them.oh and wat about lambs,most die at 26 days old ,even chickens ,do u know the average life is 8-12 weeks,so if people want to talk about animal cruelty just look at the food chain..greenpeace and the like fight a loseing battle against the ignorant.
