Project Stagea

I bought a standardish Stagea a few months ago to see if I liked it. Obviously I did, as they have that 'cool' feeling that you can only get from something that is unfeasibly long and rather nippy. However i do find them pretty ugly looking as standard.
So I started to hatch a plan to build my ideal version of the stagea. This would obviously have the R34 front and RB26. However when looking into it I found that not only was it more expensive than I thought, the lead times on the parts etc was a nightmare.
So I started to keep an eye in Japan for one that as already been converted. Very hard to find one that ticked all the boxes. I found a lovely candy red one with a 1JZ! Although that was a little more than I wanted to pay considering the hard life it had been given, it was a drift car.
Eventually i found the car I wanted, it was black, had the R34 front and had RB26, 5 speed conversion.
As a base for furthr mods it was ideal, so I recently snapped it up. It as a fairly standard engine from what I can tell, and although I good up the boost and retain the low down response, I like the idea of having something that looks like a small building and is faster than most things this side one is likely to meet on the road.
The 'current' plan is to remove the engine when it gets here and replace with a block I have in crash damaged 32 that is coming over, this has

TOMEI272 cam
RISESU forged titanium piston top 86 Φ
N1 water pump
N1 oil pump
1.5 millimeter METARUGASUKETTO
Turbonetics T67 Turbo
A/R0.96 exhaust housing
HKS RESHINGUUESUTOGETO
Trust RESHINGUBUROOFUBARUBU
NISMO injector 550 ㏄
ARC inter cooler
Oil Cooler
Two-layer copper radiator
TSUINPURETOKURATCHI OS (allophone startup)

Leading Trust Φ 110 muffler exit 90 Φ
Front pipe
Straight pipes (NONKYATARAIZA)
100Φ suction pipe
Trust EAINKUSU

Power FC D JETRO APEKUSERA

However my piston engine knowledge is very limited, so I may be questioning you guys a fair bit. First questin is ref the ECU, will the stagea have new additional GTR ecu to run the engine?

Here are some pictures any comments ideas will be gratefullly recieved.

Visully I plan to go slightly lower, tint the front windows and go fror some black Nismos, with a big brake kit on the front.

That is the bollocks!!

The stagea will have a gtr ecu in it, might not be a bad idea to swap teh apexi Djetro over from the 32 as well as the engine.

Splines into hub

stagea 29.82mm
gtr 32.65mm

axle thickness

stagea 28.07mm
gtr 30.07mm

swaybars

stagea 19.25mm
gtr 25.60mm

rear brake rotors

stagea 265.05mm
gtr 297.02mm

axle to diff uni joint size

stagea 90.63mm
gtr 98.94mm

ok well i been measuring things up and trying a few ideas and heres my findings

stagea track is wider than the gtr (and gtr axles are about 80mm too short compared to stagea ones)

tried a gtr r32 swaybar on the rear and it DOESN'T fit so thats buggered that idea :whatsthat

well the real good news is i recently got sent a axle to replace to stagea one and found out its heaps fatter and bigger unis etc so i compare to gtr one to the one i got sent and the one i got sent is EXACTLY the right length to fit the stagea with gtr diff which is bloody awesome and a stroke of luck as its actually a GTS4 axle which is same larger size as gtr but just 80mm longer

All of the following have the same size drive shafts (or axles)
S13 (and 180sx), S14, S15, R32, R33, A31, C33. I can't comment on R34, but I suspect they would also be the same.
All of them are the same size (though some may have 6 bolt pattern as opposed to 5 bolt pattern where they join to the diff), except for the GTR models. The GTR has a thicker driveshaft, and as a result a larger spline where it enters the wheel hub.

You don't need to change the diff/subframe etc to use GTR driveshafts. Providing your car has 5 bolt pattern on the driveshafts, the GTR ones will bolt up to your diff. Then the only problem is the spline difference.
I can't comment specifically about stageas, but I would bet my left nut it is going to be the same as the skylines/silvias in the design of the rear hubs.
There are 3 parts to the hub assembly.
The hub carrier (or upright), is the cast iron piece that your suspension arms and struts bolt onto.
The backing plate, contains the drum style parking brake (if your car has one) and acts as a stone guard to the brake rotor
The hub itself, holds the wheel studs, the bearing is contained inside the hub and the spline from the driveshaft is engaged with the hub to transfer power to the wheels.
On all of the above mentioned models, the hub assembly is designed the same way, that is the hub is bolted onto the upright with 4 bolts and the backing plate is sandwiched between the two.

The R33 models and the GTR's use a different method of bolting the suspension arms to the upright, which makes them incompatible unless you want to go swapping your whole rear end out. But, they still both use the same method to bolt the hub itself to the upright, which means that the GTR hub will bolt onto an upright from any of the above mentioned models.

You can fit GTR anti roll bars but they are the ones for a r33 not 32
I know as I have fitted heavy duty whiteline ones for a 33 GTR - they do fit.

Suspension and steering is pretty much all R33 so GTR parts will fit a stagea, ( the RS260 had a GTR back end)

Only thing thats not the same is the rear springs which are exclusive to the stagea.

Well I tried to fit a standard rear R33 GTR one on saturday and it didnt fit, it was too short and meant that the fixings would be on the bend of the bar, not the straight section.

Quick question if you don't mind, but how does the car drive? I know you driven a few GTR etc and wondered how it compared
