Question SplitFire Ignition System

For some reason, this just appeals to me. At just under five hundred quid, it's not cheap, and I really can't find any decent information on what benefits it offers. I think Ronnie uses it, I know the SVS beast uses it, but would it provide any real benefit for Skylines running a stage one level of tuning? I am currently running iridium plugs (HKS, I think - Abbey supplied & fitted).

Anybody running a Splitfire set up? Benefits? Better to get HKS super plugs @ £20 apiece?

I use them as well. I think you will find they help when running higher boost levels. At stage one you should be fine with just the decent plugs.

I am wondering about this myself as well.

My goal is to get 500 HP at all 4 wheels reliably, for ignition upgrade, I plans to get the splitfire coil, HKS twin power ignition module and NGK iridium plugs #8 heat range. Is that enough for my power goal?

That would be more than enough on your GTR34

Splitfire

never used them myself, I suppose they are better than standard, who knows, dont know how/why, anyone?

I do use the Twin Power though, makes a big difference and increases the burn, really fab and can highly recommend.

DIY fitment as well.

Twin Power Sucks.

#1 - Its not water tight - not even water resistant . Breath on it wrong and it fails . I have had 2 fail on me - left me by the side of the road one day till I figured out what failed. Never again. I will NEVER put a twin power on another car.

#2 - All they are are a capacitor that stores energy.

Splitfire - they are supposed to be higher voltage coils . I have put them on a few cars - never noticed any before and after though....if they actually work

$500 quid should read about $500 US...

If you are having problems with putting out the spark - then spend the money - if not - you are not going to notice a difference....

For R32 /R33 we have used a B & M new volt - about $250 US. Which really does work. What it does is up the voltage to the coils. Boost the main coil voltage up to 20 volts and it ups the secondary voltage.

Before I used it on Big Bird - with 1.4 bar and nitrous I was putting out the spark.... so the plugs come out and put the gap down --- finally got it down from 1.1 mm( about 0.041 ) down to 0.018. Still didnt like me much...

With the B & M new volt - we went up to 1.8 with nitrous and had no misfires.

This was with Apex'i Iridium 8 plugs.

The R34 however has the transistor for the ignitor built into the coil.

I have heard - that it wont work - doesn like the B&M new volt.

Tomei put an R33 coilpack setup in their R34 so they could use the New Volt...

Its one of those products you probably dont hear about - but is used in Japan...made in the US
