Either way, I'm hoping for a not-too dissimilar situation. However, as people have said before this is probably less guaranteed than it might previously have been due to:

Nissan fulfilling demand for pre-orders rather than keeping numbers purposely low and hence generating a waiting list of their choosing

There are 2 cars advertised in this weeks sunday times at 15k over list for June and July 09 delivery - same advert as last week. I'm also going on the assumption that having a silver, non-sat nav car gets me a car effectively £3300 less than a new order, so must help to some degree with residuals.
As soon as the car becomes second hand the dealer can sell it for as much as he likes.
In the case of the R8 the dealer asked my friend when he bought it to give him first chance to buy it back.
So on that car the dealer made a nice profit selling at list when it was new & 5K selling it again 3 months later
