Gentlemen - here are the official track rules... (translated poorly from the materials I was given) Please read before arriving (although you'll probably have them explained to you on the day).
Also - with regards to convertibles - if you have built in (head protection) like in the S2000, you are ok. Their rules are for those without such head protection. I called the track and specifically inquired about the AP2 S2000 and the latest Mazda Roadster. So long as the cars have the standard roll over bars behind the seats, we should be ok. Just in case, the lady's name was MATSUZAWA.

Track Rules for SportsLand Yamanashi:
Rules regarding Cars:
Usually, it is possible to run with a "normal" car. However, you should always conduct a check before running (i.e. pre starting inspection). An operating silencer is necessary to have on. Headlights and foglights must be taped so that there is no glass visible. Allowed tape types are vinyl and duct tape. For cars which have removed their air (cleaner) boxes, they must have an oil catch tank attached. Also, the following items must be fulfilled:
4 wheel vehicles - for "open cars," a roll over bar is necessary. An open car is defined as a vehicle without structural materials above the driver's head. Wheel caps must be removed unless they are secured by bolts. As rubber mats may interefer with pedal operation, these should always be removed. A car with severe front/rear off balance cannot be run on track. Ideally all 4 wheels should be the same brand.
Rules concerning Safety:
4 wheel vehicles - must wear a helmet that meets or surpasses the JIS B grade rules (note: this means for motorcycles - not scooters - or better). A racing suit is ideal but one may run with clothing that is similar (long sleeves, long pants). Should wear "racing gloves."
Rules concerning Running on the Track.
1) Course-in (entering the track), Course-out (entering the pit):
Course-in takes place from the pit road in front of the control tower. To Course-out, go inside of the dotted yellow lines in front of the S-corner. Although the yellow dotted line can be driven over during running the track, never cross over the solid yellow line.
2) Duties while running on the track
While running on the track, intentional driving off the track is prohibited. The track is defined as between the white lines drawn on both sides of the track.
3) Respecting the Signals
While running on the track, always pay attention to the signals and flags, and follow their direction. The main flags are as below:
Yellow Flag - go slow. There is a large danger ahead.
Red Flag - Track running suspended. Immediately return to the paddock, and wait.
Black Flag - Displayed for a specific car. The car for which it is displayed must immediately suspend running, and follow the directions of the officials.
Checker Flag - Running has ended. Course-out after one lap of cooling down. After the checker flag, always slow down your running pace.
4) Responding to Occurance of Trouble.
(for cars)
(1) If you spin - slowly return onto the track after confirming it is safe to do so (for cars from behind). In particular, if you spin off outside the track, take great car not to dirty the track while running off the racing line.
(2) If you crash - stay in your car. As there glass and oil may be scattered, do not move your car until instructed to do after by track officials after they arrive at your car.
(3) When your car cannot run due to mechanical trouble - to the best of your ability, park your car where it will not get in the way of others who are running (outside the racing line). The driver should stay inside the car. If it is possible that oil is leaking, always move the car outside of the track course. After track officials arrive, follow their directions.
