it might be a stupid hunch, but could it be that the paintshop removed a lot of weight from you car in order to paint it, and placed everything in the boot. if the boot has overweight, for an extremely long time it could happen that some component in the suspension system got overloaded for good.

im sorry for lack of terms, but that's just a thought.
