What size is this if you compare it to a Garrett turbo?

Physically the frame of an HX3540 is slightly bigger than a GT3582R, and I believe they are suitable for similar power levels.

Doesn't mean you can't put them on petrol motors, doesn't stop people from putting Greddy turbos on their cars The Holset wheel technology is argueably better than Garrett equivalents, they are all plain bearing turbos keeping the price down - HOWEVER some argue that they can near compete with the BB core Garretts in terms of spool due to the really efficient wheels. They have a decent solid shaft etc, and can handle lots of boost.

I have mates with them but (alas so common with projects) none of the cars are tuned yet. There is a L28ET with a HX40, a 1JZGTE with a HX35 and a 2JZGTE with an HX50 I've been waiting for some time to see how they come out running in real terms haha.

What do you think Trust T78/T88s are?

The Holset is a good choice, particularly as it comes standard with a ported shroud compressor housing

Who sell Holset Turbo?

The HX35/40 sounds like a good option for a turbo that is bang in the middle between a GT35R and a GT40R.

Best advantage of a Holset is they efficient at 3bar+ if you got an engine built for that, wheras a Garrett GT is usually on its knees about 2bar

Hmmmm, interesting info.

Where can we get more info on these Holsets?

Like Nocturnal said if the HX35/40 comes in between a GT35R AND 42R then Im realy interested. Would that not compare to a T04Z?

You wont get any help/info off Holset as they are totally uninterested in the modified car or even petrol car world, they concentrate on diesels and all info they provide is related to them.

Also there are an incredible amount of different varieties of these turbos in general if you are getting one that was intended for an OE application, same as if you got a Garrett in the same way, so need to know what you looking at and talking about.

A GT40R comes between them too.

A GT40R is very similar in spool and power handling to a HX40 as long as you got the right version. Main advantage is they are efficient at mega high boost, unlike Garretts.
And the price, of course.

Never knew that a Turbo cares which kind of motor generated the exhaust gases that rotate the turbine?!?

Ignorance is bliss.

This is a great thread! Holset turbos are amazing in terms of durability - look at the shaft size on those suckers. Easy to rebuild as well. I have a friend with an HX35, 12cm turbine housing on his '87 BMW E30, and it is an absolutely amazing setup. I've seen them on 10-second Honda Civics, and a few SR20's, KA24's, and an RB20, but not on a RB25 or RB26. I cant wait to see some results from you guys.
